‘Sick to My Stomach’ — NaLyssa Smith Gets Brutally Honest After Shocking Trade From Wings to Aces

NaLyssa Smith had an emotional reaction to her surprising trade from the Dallas Wings, heading to the Las Vegas Aces for draft capital.

The Las Vegas Aces are facing a challenging stretch in the 2025 season. They have managed only four victories in their last 10 games despite good individual performances from their superstars.

Reigning MVP A’ja Wilson is currently averaging 21.6 points per game, while Jackie Young has been equally impressive with 18 points per game. However, individual brilliance hasn’t led to team success.

This has now prompted the Aces’ front office to make a bold move to immediately strengthen their roster.

Las Vegas Aces Acquire NaLyssa Smith From the Dallas Wings

On June 30, the Las Vegas Aces announced on X that they acquired forward NaLyssa Smith from the Dallas Wings in exchange for their 2027 first-round pick. It was a move that absolutely no one saw coming. Not even Smith herself.

The 24-year-old took to X shortly after the news broke and posted a raw and emotional message.

“Sick to my stomach dawg, never seen this coming but .. I love you dallas nation, thank you 4 everything,” wrote Smith on X.

Adding another layer of emotion to the trade, it also separates Smith from her girlfriend DiJonai Carrington, a standout guard for the Wings who is currently averaging 11.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game.

However, Smith didn’t stay down for long. In a separate post on X, she expressed excitement about the opportunity ahead.

“On another note, tho if I could’ve chose anywhere to go, it would’ve been vegas, so hella excited 4 this new opportunity wit my goat,” wrote Smith on a follow-up X post, presumably a nod at Wilson.

Known for her athleticism and defensive versatility, Smith is the type of player who can step into the Aces’ lineup and ease the burden on Wilson.

Her mid-range shooting ability stretches the floor, forcing defenses into difficult choices. That, in turn, can reduce the double-teams Wilson faces and open up the offense with better spacing.

Her ability to contribute in multiple areas makes Smith a versatile piece that can adapt to the team’s evolving needs throughout the season.

With Las Vegas holding an 8-8 record midway through the season, the Aces are eager to find ways to improve their performance and climb the standings. For the Wings, this trade is another step forward in building their future around star rookie Paige Bueckers.
