Since Anthony Edwards took his leap into a perennial All-Star/All-NBA candidate, the Minnesota Timberwolves have been among the most active teams on the trade market every year. After acquiring Tim Connelly from the Denver Nuggets as their general manager, Minnesota has tinkered with the lineup to build an ideal contender.
It involved blockbuster deals that brought in Rudy Gobert and Julius Randle, while more low-scale moves like the one for Mike Conley. This offseason, too, rumors about a potential Kevin Durant trade were in the pipeline before he joined the Houston Rockets. Now, Connelly has revealed the plan for the Wolves this offseason.

Where Are The Minnesota Timberwolves Headed?
Since Connelly came on board, the number of moves from Minnesota to build a stable playoff contender has increased multifold. And the proof is in the pudding, as the Timberwolves franchise enjoys one of its strongest runs since its inception.
Back-to-back Western Conference Finals for the first time in franchise history is just the tip of the iceberg, as the end goal for everyone in the organization is the same. And for Connelly, that may or may not involve a trade.
At the 2025 NBA Draft, reporters caught up with Minnesota’s general manager about the number of rumors making the rounds this offseason. And his answer might not outright appease fans of the franchise.
Andrew Dukowitz, a beat reporter for Zone Coverage Minnesota, caught his comments and posted them on X: “Yeah, we’re always talking. I wouldn’t believe all the rumors that are written in the last couple of weeks.”
However, he didn’t give a clear answer about the Wolves’ plans. “We’re always talking. Until we win it all, we have to challenge ourselves. We’re happy with our team, but we’re not content with the outcome last year.”
Tim Connelly on the potential for an offseason trade

That seems to imply that some moves might be in the pipeline. But Connelly was quick to put those rumors to rest. “We’re always talking, but we don’t have anything cooking at the moment.”
However, he does believe something could happen in the coming weeks, starting as soon as the day after the draft. “Tomorrow morning, you’ll see teams put up their depth chart, and those calls will start in the morning.”
Last season, Minnesota essentially exchanged Randle with their former first overall pick, Karl-Anthony Towns, with Donte DiVincenzo thrown into the mix as well. The move worked out to be a treat for both parties, as the Wolves made it back to the Conference Finals, while the New York Knicks made their first appearance in the penultimate round this century.
But with a future “face of the league” on their roster, the goal for Minnesota, as Connelly reiterated, is to win the Larry O’Brien. And he’s shown before that he’s willing to do whatever it takes to make that a reality.
