76ers Depth Chart: Breaking Down Philadelphia’s Starting Lineup After Selecting VJ Edgecombe at No. 3 in 2025 NBA Draft

The Philadelphia 76ers selected VJ Edgecombe with the third overall pick. What does their depth chart look like after adding the promising rookie?

The Philadelphia 76ers were one of the most disappointing teams of the 2024-25 season. After giving Paul George a four-year deal worth $212 million, many were expecting this to finally be the year that Philadelphia broke through and reached the first Conference Finals of the Joel Embiid era, at the very least.

Instead, they won just 24 games on the season, ending up with the third overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. With a bevy of options to choose from, general manager Daryl Morey decided to add a high-impact piece from the outset, VJ Edgecombe, to the roster. But after their rookie addition, what does the current 76ers squad look like?

What Is the Philadelphia 76ers’ Depth Chart?

Point Guard: Tyrese Maxey

Shooting Guard: Jared McCain, Jared Butler

Small Forward: VJ Edgecombe, Ricky Council IV

Power Forward: Paul George, Justin Edwards

Center: Joel Embiid, Adem Bona

Point Guard

Tyrese Maxey: The starter and a budding superstar, Tyrese Maxey has gone from a mid-first-round pick to a perennial All-NBA-caliber guard in the blink of an eye. Even on a disappointing team last year, he put up 26.3 points and 6.1 assists per night.

Shooting Guard

Jared McCain: Even though he got injured midway through the year, Jared McCain was immediately making a major impact on the 76ers, averaging over 15.0 points a game as he was quickly thrust into a starting role.

Jared Butler: Acquired in exchange for Reggie Jackson, Jared Butler played some solid minutes towards the end of the year for Philadelphia, averaging 9.0 points, 3.7 assists, and 1.8 rebounds per game.

Small Forward

VJ Edgecombe: Their new first-round rookie, Edgecombe is a combo shooting guard/small forward who Philly might start from Day 1 as a rookie. That would allow them to deploy a point-of-attack defender and minimize some of Maxey’s shortcomings on that end of the floor.

Ricky Council IV: Now entering his third year on the 76ers’ roster, Ricky Council IV is a bench piece to round out the rotation who can continue to develop in due time. However, it became clear last season that he’s not yet a name the 76ers can rely on for long stretches.

Power Forward

Paul George: One of the most disappointing first seasons with a new team concluded with George averaging an underwhelming 16.2 points on 43.0% shooting while barely suiting up for half the season.

Justin Edwards: Getting consistent playing time in the second half of the season after injuries plagued the roster, Justin Edwards started in 26 games and put up 10.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.0 steals across 26.3 minutes per game.

Center

Joel Embiid: A perennial MVP candidate and the 76ers’ best player when healthy, injuries continue to be the Achilles heel for Embiid, who missed a majority of the 2024-25 season and averaged 23.8 points a night in the games he did suit up for.

Key Notes

Names like Kyle Lowry, Quentin Grimes, and Guerschon Yabusele are free agents, so it remains to be seen if they will be back in Philadelphia. Grimes and Yabusele both had career years in the 2024-25 season, with the former averaging a career-high 14.6 points per game.

The 76ers will likely focus the majority of their attention the rest of the offseason on the power forward and center spots, especially with Edgecombe likely to see significant minutes right from the onset of his career.
