With the glorious win in Game 7 of the 2024-25 NBA Finals, the Oklahoma City Thunder proved they are a team for the ages. They defeated the strong-willed Indiana Pacers 103-91 on Sunday to win a championship for the first time since the team relocated to Oklahoma City.
Winning Sunday’s Game 7 wasn’t just another feather in their hat. It also made OKC the fourth team in league history to notch 84 wins in a single season, counting both the regular season and playoffs. The franchise now has two reasons to celebrate: the Larry O’Brien and a ticket to the 84-win club.
OKC Thunder Won Accolades Comfortably in the 2025 NBA Finals
Just four years removed from a 22-win season, the Thunder have climbed all the way to the top, capturing an NBA championship with the league’s fourth-youngest roster. With an 84-win campaign, they’ve etched their legacy into league history and will be remembered as among the best in the NBA.
Throughout the season, OKC hasn’t just been a good team. They have dominated everyone, on the way to winning 68 games in the regular season. They added 16 more wins to their tally in the playoffs, joining rare company in the process.
OKC joins an elite club with three other teams, including the 2015-16 Golden State Warriors (88-18), the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls (87-13), and the 1996-97 Chicago Bulls (84-17).

Over 105 games this season, the Thunder outscored their opponents by 1,243 points, the largest total point differential for any team in the league’s history. In fact, they have an average differential of 11.8 points, which is fourth overall all-time in the NBA.
Their softspoken leader and hero, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, has his own set of accolades to celebrate apart from the win. He’s now the only player in the last decade to win the league MVP, Finals MVP, and a scoring title in the same season. Other members of this club include LeBron James, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Shaquille O’Neal, Tim Duncan, Hakeem Olajuwon, Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Moses Malone, and Willis Reed.
SGA capped off his season with 29 points and 12 assists. It was a run of a lifetime for him.
“So many hours, so many moments, so many emotions,” he said after Game 7. “This group worked for it. We deserve this.”
The Thunder turned the tables in the second half, rallying from a halftime deficit. Indiana struggled to generate offense without the injured Tyrese Haliburton, and Oklahoma City capitalized. They won the turnover battle 21-7 and converted those into a dominant 32-10 edge in points off turnovers.
With 84 total wins and a championship to cap it off, the Thunder have not only secured their place in NBA history. They are possibly looking at the beginning of a dynasty. Armed with youth, chemistry, draft assets, and cap flexibility, Oklahoma City may only be getting started.
