As the 2025 NBA Draft nears, South Carolina’s Collin Murray-Boyles has become one of the most interesting talents in this year’s class. The 6’7″ forward from Columbia gets a ton of attention from NBA scouts and is widely projected to be a first-round pick.
Murray-Boyles’s family has supported him everywhere he has played, and his father even built a gym for him during the COVID-19 pandemic. Let’s get to know his parents in detail and explore how they influenced his rise to the top of the draft boards.

Murray-Boyles’ high school coach, Joshua Staley, credits his parents for instilling a great work ethic in him, which is one reason behind his rise to the top of draft boards.
“Some kids get to the point where they max out and Collin has constantly got better,” Staley said. “A lot of that is the work ethic his parents have instilled in him. That is why his game is always growing.”

Both of Murray-Boyles’ parents are devoted Gamecock fans, and it was the reason he decided to play his college career in South Carolina.
“It really was a no-brainer,” Murray-Boyles told The Daily Gamecock. “My family is a South Carolina family. My mom graduated from here. My dad is an avid USC women’s basketball fan. We always go to games. So, I already knew what the crowd was like and how the environment was, so I already knew what I was getting myself into.”
The Gamecocks forward also revealed that his family attended all of his games, regardless of the distance they had to travel.
“100%, every single game,” Murray-Boyles said of his family’s support. “No matter where it’s at, they’re going to be there every time.”
While Murray-Boyles’ parents haven’t played basketball, his brother has. He has two older brothers: Armani and James, and the latter had a standout career at UNC Pembroke from 2015-19, scoring 1,369 career points. James didn’t get drafted in the NBA and is now playing overseas, having last played for Astana in the VTB United League.
