NBA stars and media members have praised the Duke Blue Devils star, with some touting him as a generational prospect. He has unlimited potential and a sharp approach to the sport that will help him elevate to unprecedented greatness in the league.
His former Duke head coach is all praises after displaying his skills in his freshman season, which led Flagg to win the Naismith Player of the Year award. “There’s certain things that I replay from that game,” Jon Scheyer told Sports Illustrated. “That’s not one of them. You trust the ball in Cooper’s hands.”
He had a marvelous freshman year, leading Duke to both ACC regular season and conference tournament titles, including Final Four appearances in the NCAA Tournament. He averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.4 blocks per game. Flagg was also the recipient of the Wooden Award and the ACC Rookie of the Year award, dominating the college basketball spectrum.
The Mavericks are reportedly going to select the 18-year-old basketball phenom as he looks forward to stepping into this competitive world. While the Mavericks have Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis for now, Dallas’ focus and narrative will shift with him being the key figure of the team.
Flagg also met with the Mavericks front office earlier this week, indicating that he will most likely be drafted by them on Wednesday as the first pick. Many of his Duke teammates, including Khaman Maluach and Kon Knueppel, are also expected to be selected this year.
