Kevin Durant Trade Rumors: NBA Insider Reveals the $194,219,320 Star’s 3 Preferred Landing Spots

Kevin Durant's trade picture becomes clearer as details emerge on his top preferred teams with the NBA veteran looking to move on from Phoenix.

The NBA superstar Kevin Durant may be approaching his 37th birthday, but his name still carries weight like few others in the league. The future Hall of Famer remains one of the NBA’s most unstoppable scorers.

Although not in his prime, Durant can still change the direction of a franchise. He posted elite numbers last season — 26.6 points, six rebounds, 4.2 assists per game on a remarkable 52.7% shooting from the field. These stats show the two-time NBA Finals MVP still operates at an All-NBA level.

But after the Suns’ debacle this season, and with a new head coach and general manager in place in Phoenix, Durant’s exit from the Phoenix Suns feels imminent. His trade speculation has been simmering for months, and according to new reports from The Athletic and NBA insider Shams Charania, the picture is getting clearer.

Kevin Durant’s Top 3 Preferred Teams

Durant has reportedly set his eyes on three potential landing spots: the San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets, and Miami Heat. All three offer different timelines, core pieces, and challenges, but each represents an opportunity for Durant to add another championship to his resume.

Reports say Durant prefers the Spurs and Rockets, with the Heat emerging as a potential third suitor. Each destination offers something different, but all would need to consider his age and a whopping $194,219,320 contract.

San Antonio Spurs

Durant is reportedly interested in playing for the Spurs and teaming up with Victor Wembanyama. The pairing makes basketball sense. Wemby is already a defensive monster, and adding Durant would ease his offensive burden while maximizing floor spacing. Durant’s shooting and isolation scoring would give San Antonio a go-to option in crunch time, something they lacked last season.

The Spurs also boast flexibility. They have 13 first-round picks through 2032 and multiple young pieces like Stephon Castle and Jeremy Sochan that could be packaged in the trade. Besides, Spurs’ Head Coach Mitch Johnson is seen as a progressive leader who could blend Durant’s veteran IQ with the team’s young core.

But the Spurs are playing the long game, and the front office reportedly wants to keep the No. 2 pick in the coming NBA draft, likely to select Rutgers guard Dylan Harper. The Spurs may not want to fast-forward their rebuild for an aging superstar, no matter how great he still is.

Houston Rockets

Houston has quietly built one of the most balanced young rosters in the league. Under Ime Udoka, they’ve developed an elite defense, but they still need half-court scoring to make a bigger impact, especially at the playoff level. That’s exactly where Durant comes in. Pairing him with Alperen Şengün and Jalen Green would give the Rockets elite spacing and versatility.

A healthy Durant would instantly raise Houston’s ceiling from playoff hopeful to a possible contender. But the Rockets don’t want to tear apart their core. They are not interested in parting ways with Şengün or Green in a trade. Without major assets going back to Phoenix, it’s hard to construct a deal that satisfies both sides.

Miami Heat

Although not in The Athletic’s report, the Heat are also in the mix. NBA insider Shams Charania noted Durant’s interest in playing for the Heat. Playing next to Andrew Wiggins and Tyler Herro is intriguing.

Durant’s offensive skill set fits the Heat’s playing culture perfectly: tough and efficient. Besides, the Heat has needed a dependable late-game scorer, and Durant would immediately fill that void.

But Miami’s trade package may not excite the Suns. Draft capital is limited, and the Suns don’t appear interested in a rebuild. Unless a third team is involved, it’s hard to see how the Heat can outbid others.
