Golden State Warriors Stephen Curry recently spoke out about his future on what he’ll do when he retires from the NBA. Despite falling short in the second round of the 2025 playoffs, Curry and the Warriors have firmly cemented their position in NBA history.
The franchise has seen incredible success with arguably the greatest shooter in the league’s history leading the charge. They won four NBA championships within eight years and are considered by many to be the most recent championship dynasty in the league.
While it might be hard to accept that Curry will eventually leave the league, the fact remains that he is steadily approaching the end of his career. During a recent interview with CNBC, the Warriors star shared his hopes and dreams for a future beyond his legacy as a player.

Stephen Curry Reveals Interest in Becoming NBA Owner
Although NBA stars make millions and can be considered some of the most financially wealthy individuals in society, team owners are successful businessmen with billions of dollars. After all, they can buy and manage an entire organization while also paying the players and other coaching and support staff.
Throughout league history, only Michael Jordan was able to become the owner of a team after completing his career as a superstar on the court. Although Jordan is no longer the majority shareholder for the Charlotte Hornets, he bought them for $275 million but sold his stake in the team for almost $3 billion.
Curry is obviously well informed about Jordan’s success in the world of business and revealed in an interview with CNBC that he is interested in owning a team in the future.
“Obviously, Michael Jordan is the only one…He’s the only one that I can think of from the top of my head that’s sat in that seat and done it that way. There’s a lot of different ways to be a part of an ownership group or a model that makes sense. Obviously, when you look at the valuations of a lot of these teams, that’s crazy,” he said.
“The idea of being a part of an ownership group and the right opportunity that allows me to have an impact on how a franchise should be operated… that’s something I’m excited about pursuing.”

Curry continued, “There are levels to this though. But the idea of being a part of an ownership group and the right opportunity that allows me to have an impact on how a franchise should be operated, how you’re going after winning, like we’ve done here with the Warriors. That’s something I’m excited about pursuing.”
The Warriors star concluded his answer with an air of confidence: “Obviously, as an active player, you can’t participate at that level until you’re done, so…You’ll see me in the seat somewhere down the road.”
Curry is reported to have a net worth of around $240 million. Although that makes him richer than most superstars in the league, it will be nearly impossible for him to acquire a majority stake in an existing and successful team such as the Warriors. This would be the case since the franchise is estimated to have a $8.8 billion valuation, per Forbes.
Therefore, if Curry follows through on his plan, he is more likely to find himself part of a group of owners. The Warriors star might also consider becoming the owner of a new team under the assumption that the league’s expansion plan materializes in the future. Only time will tell if Curry becomes the face of a team from the ownership perspective.
