As the 2024-25 NBA season winds down and the offseason approaches, the league’s coaching lineup showcases a mix of seasoned veterans and emerging talents, each guiding their respective teams.
From long-tenured leaders like Erik Spoelstra of the Miami Heat, who has shaped the franchise since 2008, to recent appointments such as Tuomas Iisalo with the Memphis Grizzlies and Mitchell Johnson of the San Antonio Spurs, the league’s coaching landscape reflects both stability and fresh perspectives.͏

2025 NBA Head Coaches
1. Quin Snyder – Atlanta Hawks
Quin Snyder has been the Atlanta Hawks’ head coach since Feb. 26, 2023, becoming their 32nd coach. He previously led the Utah Jazz (2014–2022) with a 372–264 record, highlighted by a 52-20 season that topped the Western Conference in 2020-21.
Snyder won back-to-back Western Conference Coach of the Month awards and was an NBA Coach of the Year finalist. He also coached the Austin Toros to three playoff appearances and won D-League Coach of the Year in 2008-09.
2. Joe Mazzulla – Boston Celtics
Joe Mazzulla is the Boston Celtics’ head coach, becoming the 19th in team history on Feb. 16, 2023. He began coaching as an assistant at Glenville State and Fairmont State before joining the NBA G League’s Maine Red Claws.
As Fairmont State’s head coach, he compiled a 43-17 record and an NCAA Division II tournament appearance. Mazzulla joined the Celtics as an assistant in 2019 and helped lead the team to the 2022 Finals, where they lost to the Warriors. He was promoted to head coach in February 2023 and steered the Celtics to the championship in 2024.
3. Jordi Fernandez – Brooklyn Nets
Jordi Fernandez is the Brooklyn Nets’ head coach, becoming the 25th in franchise history on April 22, 2024. As an associate head coach for the Sacramento Kings in the 2022-23 season, he helped the franchise secure the Western Conference’s No. 3 seed, their first playoff appearance in 17 years.
Fernandez previously served as an assistant coach for the Denver Nuggets (2016–2022), helping lead the team to four playoff runs, and he coached the G League’s Canton Charge (2014–2016), achieving back-to-back 31-18 seasons. He also worked with the Cleveland Cavaliers in player development from 2009 to 2013.
4. Charles Lee – Charlotte Hornets
Charles Lee was named the Charlotte Hornets’ 12th head coach on May 9, 2024. He has coached in the NBA with the Atlanta Hawks (2014–2018), Milwaukee Bucks (2018–2023), and Boston Celtics (2023-2024). Lee contributed to the postseason success of all three teams. In 2020–21, he won the NBA championship with the Bucks, and in 2023-24, he had a league-high 64-win season with the Celtics that also ended in a title.
5. Billy Donovan – Chicago Bulls
Billy Donovan became the 24th head coach of the Chicago Bulls on Sept. 22, 2020. Before his hiring, he coached the Oklahoma City Thunder (2015–2020), achieving a 243-157 regular-season record and five straight playoff appearances. He received the NBCA Coach of the Year award in 2020.
Earlier in his career, Donovan led Marshall University (1994–1996) and the University of Florida (1996–2015), winning two NCAA national championships and reaching the Final Four four times while earning SEC Coach of the Year honors three times.
6. Kenny Atkinson – Cleveland Cavaliers
On June 28, 2024, Kenny Atkinson was named the 24th head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Before his current stint with the Cavs, he won the 2022 NBA championship as an assistant coach with the Golden State Warriors (2021–2024).
Atkinson also served as an assistant coach with the New York Knicks (2008–2012), Atlanta Hawks (2012–2016), and Los Angeles Clippers (2020–2021). He led the Brooklyn Nets to the playoffs in 2019 while serving as their head coach from 2016 to 2020.
7. Jason Kidd – Dallas Mavericks
Jason Kidd became the Dallas Mavericks’ 10th head coach on June 28, 2021. Before Dallas, he was an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers (2019–2021), helping them secure the 2020 NBA championship and finish first in the Western Conference during the regular season.
Kidd previously served as head coach for the Brooklyn Nets (2013–2014), winning Coach of the Month twice, and the Milwaukee Bucks (2014–2018), leading them to two playoff appearances.
8. David Adelman – Denver Nuggets
David Leonard Adelman is the head coach of the Denver Nuggets. After coaching high school basketball in Portland, he joined the NBA in 2011 with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He later served as an assistant coach for the Orlando Magic and Denver Nuggets, winning the 2023 NBA championship with the latter.
In April 2025,͏ Adelman became Denver’s interim head coach, leading them to a playoff run that included a first-round win over the Clippers and a semifinals loss to the Thunder. He was given the permanent position a month later.
9. J.B. Bickerstaff – Detroit Pistons
J.B. Bickerstaff became the 38th head coach of the Detroit Pistons on July 3, 2024. He previously coached the Cleveland Cavaliers (2020–2024), leading them to both the 2023 and 2024 NBA playoffs.
His past roles include head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies (2017–2019) and assistant coach positions with the Grizzlies, Rockets, Timberwolves, and (then) Bobcats. Notably, he led Houston to a playoff berth in 2015–16, and his 2018-19 Grizzlies squad boasted the NBA’s third-best scoring defense.
10. Steve Kerr – Golden State Warriors
Steve Kerr became the Golden State Warriors’ head coach on May 19, 2014. In his first five seasons, he led the team to five straight NBA Finals, winning championships in 2015, 2017, and 2018. In 2016, Kerr guided the Warriors to a record 73-9 season and earned NBA Coach of the Year. Before coaching, he was a TNT analyst and served as the Phoenix Suns’ GM in 2007.
11. Ime Udoka – Houston Rockets
On April 26, 2023, Ime Udoka was appointed the 16th head coach of the Houston Rockets. In a prior season, he guided the Boston Celtics to a 51-31 record and an NBA Finals berth. Udoka served as an assistant coach for the Brooklyn Nets (2020–21), Philadelphia 76ers (2019–20), and San Antonio Spurs (2012–19). The Spurs won the NBA championship in 2014 and made the postseason each season during his tenure.͏
12. Rick Carlisle – Indiana Pacers
Rick Carlisle returned for his second stint as head coach of the Indiana Pacers on June 24, 2021. He was previously the head coach of the Detroit Pistons (2001–2003), Dallas Mavericks (2008–2021), and the Pacers (2003–2007).

In addition to winning the 2002 NBA Coach of the Year award with Detroit, Carlisle guided Dallas to nine postseason appearances and the 2011 NBA championship. He served as an assistant coach with the Pacers, Trail Blazers, and Nets before becoming a head coach.
13. Tyronn Lue – Los Angeles Clippers
Tyronn Lue is the͏head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers, becoming their 26th coach on Oct. 20, 2020. In his first Clippers season, he led them to a 47-25 record and the Western Conference finals.
Previously, Lue was head coach and associate head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, winning the franchise’s first NBA championship in 2016. He also served as an assistant coach for the Clippers and Celtics and was the 2016 All-Star Game head coach.
14. JJ Redick – Los Angeles Lakers
Hired on June 24, 2024, JJ Redick became the 29th head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. Raised in Virginia, he was a McDonald’s All-American and Virginia Mr. Basketball before starring at Duke University, where his No. 4 jersey was retired.
Drafted 11th overall by Orlando in 2006, Redick had a 15-year NBA career across six teams. He and his wife, Chelsea, have two children.
In his first year as Lakers head coach, he led the team to a 50-32 record, which was third-best in the Western Conference. However, his team was eliminated in five games in the First Round by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
15. Tuomas Iisalo – Memphis Grizzlies
Tuomas Ii͏salo became the 15th head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies on May 2, 2025. Before this, he was an assistant coach under Taylor Jenkins during the 2024-25 season, helping the team reach the playoffs.
Internationally, Iisalo led Telekom Baskets Bonn and earned back-to-back Bundesliga Coach of the Year awards (2021–23). He won the 2023 FIBA Champions League with and Best Coach honors with Telekom, then coached Paris Basketball to a 20-1 record and the 2023-24 EuroCup title.͏
16. Erik Spoelstra – Miami Heat
Eri͏k ͏Spoelstra has been the Miami Heat’s head coach since April 28, 2008, becoming the sixth in team history. Starting as a video coordinator in 1995, he has spent his entire coaching career with the Heat.
Spoelstra led Miami to NBA championships in 2012 and 2013, a Finals appearance in 2020, and contributed to the 2006 title as an assistant. He shared the 2017 NBCA Coach of the Year Award and coached the 2017 Eastern Conference All-Star team.
17. Doc Rivers – Milwaukee Bucks
Glenn “Doc” Rivers became the Milwaukee Bucks’ 18th head coach on Jan. 26, 2024. Previously, he led the 76ers to the Eastern Conference’s top seed with a 49-23 record in 2020-21. Rivers has also coached the Clippers, where he produced a 356-208 record, the Celtics (416-305, 2008 NBA championship), and the Orlando Magic, where he won the 2000 NBA Coach of the Year award in his first season.
18. Chris Finch – Minnesota Timberwolves
C͏hris Finch was named the 14th head coach in the history of the Minnesota Timberwolves on Feb. 22, 2021. Before joining in the middle of the 2020–21 season, he was the Toronto Raptors’ assistant coach.
Finch served as an assistant coach for Houston from 2011 to 2016 and as an associate head coach for the Denver Nuggets from 2016 to 2017. He was also with the New Orleans Pelicans from 2019 to 2020. Before joining the NBA, he won Coach of the Year in 2010 after leading the Rio Grande Valley Vipers to a D-League championship.
19. Willie Green – New Orleans Pelicans
Willie Green is the head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans, appointed on July 14, 2021, as their eighth head coach. From 2016 to 2019, he held an assistant coaching role with Golden State, later joining Phoenix in a similar position from 2019 to 2021.
He helped the Suns reach the 2021 NBA Finals, their first since 1993, and was part of the Warriors’ staff during back-to-back NBA championships in 2017 and 2018, including a dominant 67-15 season.͏
20. Vacant – New York Knicks (Previous Head Coach: Tom Thibodeau͏)
Tom Thibodeau͏ became the New York Knicks’ head coach on July 30, 2020, the 26th in team history. In the 2020-21 season, he led the Knicks to their first NBA playoffs appearance in eight years while New York surrendered the fewest points and lowest opponent three-point percentage in the league.
He won the 2021 NBA Coach of the Year award, his second, after previously securing the honor with the Bulls. He also coached the Timberwolves (2016–19) in addition to his time with Chicago (2010–15). Despite these achievements, Thibodeau was relieved of his duties on June 3, 2025.
21. Mark Daigneault – Oklahoma City Thunder
On Nov. 11, 2020, Mark Daigneault was appointed the fourth head coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder. Previously, he was the Thunder’s assistant coach from 2019 to 2020. He led their G League affiliate, the Oklahoma City Blue, for five seasons, achieving a 143-107 record and three consecutive division titles.
Daigneault earned three NBA G League Coach of the Month awards and was part of the Thunder coaching staff during their 2015-16 Western Conference Finals run.͏
22. Jamahl Mosley – Orlando Magic
Jamahl Mosley became the 14th head coach of the Orlando Magic on July 11, 2021. He previously served as an assistant coach for the Dallas Mavericks (2014–2021), helping them reach the NBA Playoffs four times.
Before that, he was an assistant coach for the Cleveland Cavaliers (2010–2014). Mosley began his NBA coaching career with the Denver Nuggets (2005–2010), focusing on player development and helping the team reach 50 wins each season.
23. Nick Nurse – Philadelphia 76ers
Nick Nurse, the 26th head coach in Philadelphia 76ers history, was hired on May 29, 2023. He previously won the 2020 NBA Coach of the Year award and guided the Toronto Raptors to their first NBA championship in 2019.
Before becoming Toronto’s head coach, Nurse was an assistant coach (2013–2018) and a successful NBA Development League head coach, winning two titles and Coach of the Year honors.
24. Jordan Ott – Phoenix Suns
Jordan Ott, a Penn State and Michigan State graduate, is the head coach of the Phoenix Suns. He began his NBA career as a video coordinator with the Atlanta Hawks (2013–2016), then served as an assistant coach with the Brooklyn Nets (2016–2022), Los Angeles Lakers (2022–2024), and Cleveland Cavaliers (2024–2025), reuniting briefly with Kenny Atkinson. On June 6, 2025, Ott was named the 23rd head coach in Suns history.
25. Chauncey Billups – Portland Trail Blazers
The Portland Trail Blazers hired Chauncey Billups as their 15th head coach on June 27, 2021. He spent the 2020–2021 season as an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Clippers before joining Portland.
In that role, Billups helped the Clippers achieve a 47-25 regular-season record and secure the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference, marking a strong start to his coaching career.
26. Doug Christie – Sacramento Kings
Doug Christie was named the 32nd head coach in Sacramento Kings history on May 1, 2025. Before his promotion, he served as an assistant coach under Mike Brown (2022–2024), Alvin Gentry (2021–2022), and Luke Walton (2021).
During his time as an assistant, Christie contributed to the team’s success, including their 2023 playoff appearance. He now leads the franchise as head coach.
27. Mitch Johnson – San Antonio Spurs
On͏ May 2͏, ͏2025, Mitchell Johnson was appointed the 19th head coach in San Antonio Spurs history. He previously helped the Austin Spurs win the 2018 G League championship while serving as an assistant coach (2016–2019).
Johnson later worked as Gregg Popovich’s assistant coach with the Spurs (2019–2025), helping the team qualify for the 2019 playoffs.
28. Darko Rajaković – Toronto Raptors
Darko Rajaković became the 10th head coach in Toronto Raptors history on June 10, 2023. In the 2022–23 season, he helped the Memphis Grizzlies make their third consecutive postseason appearance.
Previously, he was an assistant coach for the Phoenix Suns (2019–2020) and Oklahoma City Thunder (2014–2019), where he made four playoff appearances and reached the Western Conference Finals. He also coached the Tulsa 66ers (2012–2014), compiling a 51-49 record and reaching the 2013 G League semifinals.
29. Will Hardy – Utah Jazz
Will ͏Hardy is the head coach of the Utah Jazz, becoming the franchise’s ninth head coach on June 29, 2022. Before joining the Jazz, he spent one season as an assistant coach with the Boston Celtics, helping them reach the NBA Finals for the first time since 2010.
Hardy also spent 11 seasons with the San Antonio Spurs, including five as an assistant coach, and earlier roles as video coordinator and summer league head coach (2013–2018).
30. Brian Keefe – Washington Wizards
Brian Keefe is the head coach of the Washington Wizards, appointed on Jan. 25, 2024, becoming the 26th in team history.
His NBA coaching career includes two stints as assistant coach with the Oklahoma City Thunder (2007–2014, 2019–2020), and roles with the Los Angeles Lakers (2016–2019) and New York Knicks (2014–2016). Keefe began his NBA career as a video coordinator for the San Antonio Spurs (2005–2007), part of their 2007 championship team.
