LeBron James’ Agent Breaks Silence On Whether NBA Draft Lottery Is Rigged (As the King Recently Hinted)

After LeBron James opened the can of worms, his agent and friend Rich Paul voices his opinions about the rigging of the 2025 NBA Draft Lottery.

The Dallas Mavericks winning the 2025 NBA Draft lottery just months after trading away their franchise icon, Luka DonÄŤić, has let loose quite a few conspiracy theories. Over the years, we’ve seen some extreme coincidences in the NBA, particularly with the draft lottery.

As a result, many began to wonder if the whole process was rigged. But one of the best NBA agents out there, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports, and one of LeBron James’ best friends, had a different mindset, even though James himself has questioned the authenticity of the process.

Rich Paul Disagrees With LeBron James On NBA Draft Lottery

One of the most popular members of the NBA circle, Paul has become a regular member of the sports media landscape, dropping in for interviews time and again. This time was no different as he joined Pat McAfee on the Pat McAfee Show.

With the Mavericks winning the Cooper Flagg sweepstakes fresh on everyone’s mind, the conspiracy theory about the rigging of the draft lottery was the first question the former NFL punter brought up to Paul.

However, the mastermind of Klutch Sports wasn’t having it. “Yeah, I don’t believe any of that. I think they had the 1.8% chance, it’s happened before several times. So I know what people may think the conspiracy things, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.”

Just a  few months ago, the four-time MVP himself was on the same show, where he threw some shade at the process, bringing up two prominent examples of a superstar prospect ending up on his hometown team.

“During the lottery drop, Cleveland got the No. 1 pick,” James said. “I just don’t think that was – what a coincidence. Let’s keep LeBron home. You know what? Patrick Ewing to the Knicks. Derrick Rose to the Bulls. I understand the assignment, guys.”

This time, however, the doubt from people emerged due to the timing of the entire ordeal. Many people saw a superstar talent like Dončić ending up on the most storied franchise in the league as an all-too unlikely event, especially given the nature and asking price for the deal.

Funnily enough, the last time folks had similar doubts about the situation also involved a superstar being traded to the Lakers. When the New Orleans Pelicans parted ways with Anthony Davis and immediately won the Zion Williamson sweepstakes, many of the same doubts emerged.

However, just like it was back then, the league being rigged is an impossibility through and through. Between Ernst & Young conducting the lottery process, the number of folks involved, and the stakes it involves, the NBA Draft Lottery is about as clean as it can get.
