Even Kyrie Irving could not help but indirectly insinuate that the NBA is rigged after the Dallas Mavericks managed to secure the first pick in the upcoming 2025 NBA Draft. Although this season went terribly for the Mavericks when compared to last season, the franchise feels quite good after realizing that they have a chance to add Cooper Flagg to their roster.
Although Flagg has yet to prove that he is capable of keeping up with the best players in the league, securing the first pick and all but guaranteeing their chances of drafting him have drastically improved the Mavericks’ situation. In response to these unexpected events, Irving took to social media and shared a cryptic message.
Does Kyrie Irving Believe Dallas Rigged Draft to Get Cooper Flagg?
There is no way to know for certain if Irving suspects the Mavericks of engaging in questionable behavior in order to get the top pick in the upcoming draft. The internet is filled with theories calling out NBA commissioner Adam Silver and claiming that Dallas got Flagg because they decided to improve league viewership by sending Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Although there is no way to confirm these claims, Irving sent out a message on X that appeared to mock the Mavericks’ luck. All he did was post the odds that the Mavericks had of securing the first pick and followed that with several laughing emoticons.

That was enough for fans to go the extra mile. Some began to claim that Irving has inside knowledge on the Mavs securing the first pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. Therefore, his comment might be considered a subtle indicator that the league is rigged.
For a team that finished the NBA season in 10th place in the Western Conference, there is no denying that an incredible amount of luck was required for the Mavericks to win the top pick of the draft. After all, there are several teams with worse records, such as the Washington Wizards, Charlotte Hornets, or Portland Trail Blazers. They would have been given much better odds to secure the No. 1 overall pick.

In any case, Irving’s true feelings towards his team in the aftermath of trading away Dončić have not been made very clear. Though he likely misses playing alongside Dončić and has already expressed those feelings, Irving knows that he has a very good chance to contend for an NBA championship while continuing to remain with the Mavericks.
Fans are left wondering if he will recover from his ACL surgery and be able to join the team for next season and play alongside Flagg.
