“But the hardest thing to do is the simplest thing to do, and it starts there tomorrow,” said Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla after an overtime loss to the New York Knicks in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference semifinals series in hopes that his team would perform stronger in Game 2.
With TD Garden buzzing in anticipation, the Celtics entered Game 2 hoping to avenge their narrow loss in Game 1. But once again, the Knicks silenced the crowd and stole a win on the road, edging the Celtics by one in a defensive slugfest.
While Jalen Brunson’s poise and shot-making were vital, it was Mikal Bridges’ relentless defense that turned the tide — and fans are making sure his efforts aren’t going unnoticed.

Knicks Fans Praise Mikal Bridges for His Efforts
ESPN’s social media team highlighted Bridges’ defensive highlights in a viral post that captured the essence of his impact, which forced Boston into uncomfortable offensive possessions throughout Game 2.
After ESPN posted about Bridges’ lockdown defense, fans flooded social media with reactions.
Last July, the Knicks pulled off a blockbuster trade to acquire him and Keita Bates-Diop from the Brooklyn Nets. In exchange, New York gave up Bojan Bogdanović, Shake Milton, Mamadi Diakite, five future first-round picks, a first-round pick swap, and a second-round pick. Many questioned the steep price at the time, but now, it’s paying dividends.
“Worth every pick!” wrote a fan.
Bridges has proven to be the defensive cornerstone the Knicks needed, especially in this series. His impact in Game 2 was impossible to miss — none more so than when he was matched up against Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum. Tatum, who averaged 26.8 points per game during the regular season was held to just 13 points on Bridges’ watch in Game 2.
“He’s more valuable than Tatum anyways,” wrote another user.
But it wasn’t just defense. Bridges contributed 14 points on offense and played with the kind of energy that sparked the Knicks at crucial moments. His synergy with fellow Villanova alum Josh Hart was on full display, reminding fans of their college dominance. Hart dropped 23 points in Game 2, including key buckets down the stretch.
It’s becoming clear that their chemistry translates seamlessly to the NBA stage, giving the Knicks a reliable and dynamic duo on both ends of the floor.
“Worked out pretty well teaming up with his college teammates, I think,” wrote one fan.
While the majority of Knicks fans were busy showering Bridges with praise for his stellar Game 2 performance, not everyone was convinced. One fan wrote, “Still not worth it,” whereas another said, “Still won’t win this series.”
Tom Thibodeau’s Praise for Bridges
With a 2–0 lead over the Celtics, the Knicks have momentum on their side. The series is far from over, but if Bridges continues to perform at this level, New York might just be on the path to something special.
The versatile forward has continued to make a name for himself, showcasing a complete two-way game that’s proving vital in high-pressure moments. Following Game 1, Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau offered high praise for Bridges, singling him out during the post-game conference.
“I think one of the things I really respect about (Bridges) is his demeanor. He just keeps marching forward. He doesn’t get too high, he doesn’t get too low, but he’s a great competitor. He just finds ways to help us win. If your shot’s not dropping, play great defense, move without the ball, push the ball up the floor,” said Thibodeau.
So far in this year’s playoffs, Bridges is averaging 14.9 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. If he maintains this level of performance, he could play a crucial role in pushing the Knicks toward their first NBA Finals appearance since 1999.
