Georgia Amoore was about to make her WNBA debut on May 17 but has suffered a setback due to an ACL injury. Read to know more.

Georgia Amoore, in her final college season, led Kentucky to the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament before falling in a heart-wrenching 79-80 overtime loss to Kansas State. Despite the early exit, Amoore capped off her college career with remarkable numbers: 2,460 points, 869 assists, and 408 made three-pointers.

Just when dreams seemed within reach, disaster struck. Amoore has suffered a devastating setback, just days before what was meant to be her professional debut in the WNBA regular season against the Atlanta Dream on May 16.

Georgia Amoore Suffers an ACL Injury

The Washington Mystics announced that Amoore suffered a right ACL injury during practice on Tuesday. The Mystics team further stated that they are currently evaluating her options moving forward.

Amoore was selected by the Mystics with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft making her the highest-drafted Australian player since Liz Cambage was taken second overall by the Tulsa Shock in 2011.

The draft night was not only a milestone for her basketball journey but also a fashion moment—her standout outfit was styled by none other than NBA superstar Russell Westbrook which is a nod to her growing presence both on and off the court.

This injury couldn’t come at a worse time. The WNBA world was buzzing about what Amoore could bring to Washington—a sparkplug guard with elite shooting, playmaking instincts, and an unmatched motor. Beyond the stats, Amoore’s collegiate accolades speak volumes about her potential. She was named a Second-Team All-American in 2025 and earned First-Team All-ACC honors in 2023 and 2024.

But now the focus shifts from debut dreams to recovery. ACL injuries are among the most feared in sports, and for a rookie guard like Amoore, who relies heavily on agility and speed, the road back will be both physical and mental.

Amoore’s Performance in College

The collegiate basketball career of Amoore serves as evidence of her athletic potential. She played basketball at Virginia Tech for four seasons from 2020–24 and then moved to the University of Kentucky to play the 2024–25 season.

At Virginia Tech Amoore quickly established herself as a cornerstone of the team. In 126 games she averaged 14.7 points and 5.2 assists per game, setting school records for career assists (656).

Following her coach Kenny Brooks she transferred to Kentucky for her final collegiate season. There, she delivered her best statistical season, averaging 19.6 points, 6.9 assists and 1.0 steals per game.

Had it not been for this ACL injury setback her collegiate achievements suggested she would have been a significant asset to the Mystics. Her future impact on the professional stage remains to be seen.
