The NBA trade rumor mill is swirling with speculation about Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, and the San Antonio Spurs have emerged as a potential landing spot. The Bucks’ ongoing playoff struggles, combined with Damian Lillard’s season-ending injury, have fueled questions about Antetokounmpo’s future.

Could Giannis Antetokounmpo Be Traded to the Spurs?
NBA insider Jake Fischer has linked the Spurs to both Antetokounmpo and Kevin Durant, signaling their intent to add a superstar to complement Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox.
“San Antonio is definitely going to be, without a doubt, a team that is looking to continue to upgrade and add talent around Victor Wembanyama,” Fischer said. “We’re already seeing the process happen. We’re seeing Chris Paul sign there. We’re seeing that, make a move, and go out and get the guard that they were looking for. They were looking to pair Victor Wembanyama with an All-Star-level guard.”
Here is what Jake Fischer has to say about the Spurs being a team interested in Giannis this summer.
He also adds that there are “whispers” around the league of them bringing in Kevin Durant.

Antetokounmpo is under contract with the Bucks on a three-year, $175.3 million deal that runs through the 2027–28 season with a player option worth roughly $62 million in the final year. Despite the long-term commitment, insiders believe he could still request a trade if he has doubts about Milwaukee’s title chances.
A trade for Antetokounmpo would require a massive offer, and it is currently unclear if the Spurs have the facilities to pull off such a move without moving one of their promising young stars like Stephon Castle.
At this time, the Spurs control multiple picks from the Atlanta Hawks in addition to their own. it would not be a cheap move, but if the team wanted to go all in, it would require sacrifice from San Antonio.
Spurs Emerge as Top Contenders for NBA Stars
The Spurs have become a serious contender in the Antetokounmpo sweepstakes, buoyed by their young core and recent roster moves. According to Basket News, they’re also eyeing Kevin Durant, who averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists this season for the Suns. Durant is still under contract with Phoenix, so acquiring both stars would likely require a blockbuster deal.
The Bucks’ playoff collapse is what ignited the rumors. Down 3–1 to the Indiana Pacers in the 2025 playoffs, Milwaukee took a brutal 129–103 loss in Game 4 after Lillard went down with a torn Achilles, leaving Antetokounmpo without his co-star.
With Milwaukee’s future looking shaky and San Antonio aggressively building around Wembanyama, the Antetokounmpo trade talk isn’t going away anytime soon. Whether it happens or not, the Spurs are clearly in win-now mode.
