Will Domantas Sabonis Request a Trade From the Kings? $140.3 Million Star Has Same Concerns De’Aaron Fox Had

Domantas Sabonis wants answers about the Kings' future, echoing De’Aaron Fox’s past concerns. Could Sacramento lose another star?

Things are getting a little uneasy in Sacramento. Just when it seemed like the Kings had finally turned a corner, their $140.3 million star, Domantas Sabonis, is looking for answers—the same way De’Aaron Fox did before his departure.

According to a famous publication, Sabonis wants clarity on the team’s long-term plan this offseason. He’s questioning who’s making the big decisions, what direction the franchise is actually heading in, and most importantly—if the Kings are serious about contending.

And if Sacramento’s answers don’t line up with his expectations? This could get real interesting.

Sabonis Is Asking the Same Questions That Pushed Fox Away

This isn’t just a random concern out of nowhere. Sabonis is now wondering who’s really calling the shots behind the scenes, and guess what? Fox had those exact same concerns before he left.

Before his exit, Fox and his agent, Rich Paul, met with the Kings’ front office to get some answers about the team’s future. He wanted to know:

  • Whose voice actually matters in roster decisions?
  • Does ownership have a real plan, or are they just winging it?
  • Is Sacramento truly trying to compete, or just hoping for the best?

Fox clearly didn’t get the right answers, and now Sabonis is starting to feel the same uncertainty. That’s not a great sign if you’re Sacramento.

What’s Next for Sabonis and the Kings?

And for a player like Sabonis who’s in his prime and locked in for three more seasons, the last thing he wants is to waste his best years on a team stuck in the middle.

He’s averaging 19.5 points, 14.5 rebounds, 6.2 assists per game, with a Field Goal % of 59.6 this season. He is bringing that do-it-all playmaking style that helped turn the Kings into a playoff team.

But here’s the problem—Sacramento hasn’t taken that next step yet.

Last season, the Kings were one of the best stories in basketball, breaking a 16-year playoff drought and lighting the beam every night. But now? They’re fighting to stay relevant in a stacked Western Conference.

Sabonis is locked in for three more years, so technically, there’s no rush. But if he doesn’t feel confident in the team’s direction, it’s only a matter of time before trade rumors start heating up.

For now, the pressure is on the front office. They have to prove to Sabonis (and the fans) that they’re serious about competing. That means making the right roster moves, keeping key players happy, and showing they actually have a long-term vision.

Because if they don’t? Sacramento could lose another star. And this time, it won’t take 16 years to feel the effects.
