LeBron James is set to play for his fourth NBA team this fall. He made yet another “decision” and is now a member of the Philadelphia 76ers, instantly vaulting the team into the top tier of title contenders. Philadelphia moved from 20-1 to 9-1 after the signing, tied for third with the defending champion New York Knicks.
He signed a two-year, $8 million deal with a player option on the second season, meaning the next call comes in the summer of 2027.
But this is LeBron James we are talking about, so he may play as long as he is physically able. One former NBA player chimed in on the matter.
Corey Brewer predicts when LeBron James will retire
Former NBA player Corey Brewer spent years going up against James and now suits up as a co-captain for the Detroit Amps in Ice Cube’s BIG3 League. He spent the previous six seasons as an assistant coach with the New Orleans Pelicans. He is also younger than LeBron, showing the latter’s impressive longevity.
R.org conducted an interview with Brewer in which the 40-year-old shared how long he thinks James will continue playing.
“I personally think he’s got another three good ones left for sure, but it just depends how much he wants to play,” Brewer said, per the interview.
Brewer seems to be right on point, as James still looks like an elite-level player at age 41. He could probably play into his mid-40s, it just depends if he wants to do that or if he’d rather enjoy his wealth in retirement.

The former NBA player also chimed in on James’ fit with the 76ers.
“My overall thoughts are I think it’s great for him,” Brewer said. “LeBron, he wants to win. He still has a lot to give in basketball. LeBron averaged 20 this year. Everybody says he’s older, but he’s still playing at a high level. It’s insane the things he can do and the things he’s still doing. So for him, I felt like he wanted to go somewhere and give himself a chance to win again. And Philly has a good team.”
Potentially winning another title may be what determines how much longer James decides to play. Winning a title next summer may mean he retires on top, winning a title with four different teams. If he doesn’t reach the mountaintop again, he could keep on chasing another ring.
The 76ers are a loaded team with James, Jaylen Brown, Joel Embiid, and Tyrese Maxey. The health of Embiid may end up being the difference between a title and an early playoff exit.
