LeBron James’ decision to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers has been met with plenty of excitement across the league, but not everyone is convinced it will end the way James hopes.
One anonymous NBA executive offered a far more skeptical view of how this next chapter plays out.
What Did an NBA GM Say About LeBron James?
Speaking anonymously to NBA insider Sam Amico, an NBA general manager offered a blunt assessment of what James’ move to Philadelphia might mean for how his career is remembered.
NBA GM: “He’s still LeBron, or still has moments where he’ll remind you he was once LeBron. But this is gonna be the chapter where we watch him and say that he stuck around too long. Someday we’ll ask, ‘Remember when LeBron played for Sixers?’ and laugh.”

“He’s still LeBron, or still has moments where he’ll remind you he was once LeBron,” the GM said. “But this is gonna be the chapter where we watch him and say that he stuck around too long. Someday we’ll ask, ‘Remember when LeBron played for Sixers?’ and laugh.”
James, who turns 42 during the upcoming season, has said he seriously considered retirement before ultimately deciding to chase a fifth championship, joining a Sixers roster that now features Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown, and VJ Edgecombe.
James posted a statement on social media explaining his decision, saying he still wants to sacrifice and compete for one more shot at a championship. His final season with the Los Angeles Lakers still showed flashes of that competitiveness, as he averaged 20.9 points, 7.2 assists, and 6.1 rebounds while shooting 51.5 percent from the field.
Reaction around the league has been mixed since the signing became official. Some analysts have questioned whether Philadelphia now has too many ball-dominant scorers competing for touches.

Whether the anonymous GM’s prediction proves accurate or turns out to be premature will likely depend on how healthy James remains and how quickly Philadelphia’s new-look roster figures out how to share the ball. For now, at least one voice around the league believes this final chapter may not be remembered the way James is hoping.
With that said, only time will tell how James’ career will end. Regardless of how the Sixers perform next year, it’s no secret that the four-time champ has had one legendary career.
