John Wall and Bradley Beal formed an interesting partnership as co-stars of the Washington Wizards from 2012 to 2020. Although they had solid chemistry on the court, many wondered whether they had a friendship outside the NBA.
About a month ago, Wall opened up about how he and Beal connected when they were not competing.

Wall’s comments about how he interacted with Beal came at the height of rumors surrounding former Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown.
Back then, the Celtics were reportedly shopping the All-NBA guard after saying his best season with the team happened during the 2025-26 campaign when co-star Jayson Tatum missed all but 16 games.
What Brown said ramped up speculations that the Celtics were more than ready to break up the championship-winning pair.
The No. 1 pick in the 2010 draft reacted to those rumors by sharing his experience with Beal.
“It’s the same situation with me and Brad (Beal). Me and Brad, we didn’t have the best relationship off the court. We didn’t hang out a lot, but when we step between those four lines, we knew we were competing,” Wall said.

“We wanna win! If you listen to the outside noise, everybody be like, ‘Oh, they need to break it up. They don’t like each other.’ I don’t have to be best friends with you off the court. Long as I compete and do what I need to do between these four lines, and feed my family, and make sure this team got a chance to win everything, we’re fine!”
The difference between the two situations was the former Wizards teammates’ decision to keep their relationship out of the spotlight, according to Wall. He said that, through Brown’s social media channel, JB hinted that something was off in his relationship with Tatum.
Roughly two weeks after Wall’s comments, the Celtics shockingly sent Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers for Paul George and picks.
The Wizards ended the Wall-Beal era heading into the 2020-21 season. Washington sent Wall and a future first-round pick to the Houston Rockets for former MVP Russell Westbrook.
Wall earned five All-Star nods during his decade-long stay in Washington. He led the team to four playoff appearances, but was hounded by injuries in his last few years with the team. He sat out the 2019-20 season due to a ruptured Achilles, an injury that led to his trade to Houston.
Despite a lack of playoff success and questions about his relationship with Beal, he thanked the Wizards after the trade happened.
