LeSean McCoy Believes LeBron James Will Make Joel Embiid ‘Trust the Process’
On the latest episode of “Speakeasy,” two-time Super Bowl champion LeSean “Shady” McCoy and co-host Emmanuel Acho broke down the 22-time All-Star’s signing with the 76ers and what it means for superstar Joel Embiid.
The six-time Pro Bowler highlighted how James’ stellar resume would reset the dynamic in the Philly locker room and that he will hold the former MVP fully accountable.
“You look at a guy like Joel Embiid, who’s an All-Star, phenomenal player, but sometimes he doesn’t play… He doesn’t want to play…like, ‘I’m bigger than the program,’” said McCoy. “But LeBron’s there to make him trust the process… When LeBron gets there, it’s a different level.”

McCoy compared James’ stature to that of superstar quarterback Michael Vick, who made NFL history by signing two separate $100+ million contracts during his career.
While reflecting on his NFL days, McCoy recounted meeting Vick in a gym where he was lifting weights with DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin.
When Jackson tried skipping the session, Vick asked him to exercise together. He instantly complied as nobody could tell a legend like Vick “no.”
“Somehow, he (Michael Vick) ran into DeSean, like, ‘Yo, let’s come work out.’ And DeSean could have said no, but he was like, ‘How can I tell you no? You made $100 million twice, you, Michael Vick, you’re one of the GOAT of GOATs… That’s what LeBron James brings to the Sixers.’”
McCoy believes the 41-year-old James would bring the same undeniable psychological impact to the 76ers’ young, hungry squad.
After a long and tedious free-agency period, the four-time champion opted for a veteran-minimum contract, including a player option for the second year and a 15% trade kicker. He will earn $3.8 million in 2026–27, a $48.7 million pay cut from his last season’s $52.6 million salary with the Los Angeles Lakers. This drop marks the largest single-season salary reduction in league history.
By signing this deal, it’s clear that James isn’t arriving in Philadelphia for a payday, but rather to chase his fifth ring and give the franchise the spark it’s been missing since their last title run in 1983.
