Draymond Green has only ever known the Golden State Warriors while playing in the NBA. Now, he might not be calling the Warriors home for next season.
After opting out of his contract after 14 years with Golden State, he remains a free agent and isn’t worried about his future in the NBA.
Draymond Green Provides a Free Agency Update
Green is in no rush to sign a contract and will decide on his future whenever he is ready. He won’t have any problems finding a home, either. He has never really experienced what free agency is like because he’s always re-upped with the Warriors whenever given the opportunity to. Now, he’s relishing that opportunity.
“I am unsigned still and waiting… No one’s patience have worn thin, my patience haven’t worn thin, Rich Paul’s patience haven’t worn thing, neither have the Warriors patience worn thin… I saw a post the other day about starting players in the NBA, the length of time they’ve been a free agent and I just wanna throw my hat in that bucket,” said Green on his podcast.

It’s hard to imagine a world where Green isn’t suiting up for the Warriors, but it’s becoming a reality. Although Green could easily go back to Golden State, he has other avenues to explore. It remains to be seen how much Green still has left in the tank, but his defense is among the best in the NBA.
The Warriors are beginning to see the reality of life without their stars. Klay Thompson has been gone for a few seasons, Curry likely only has a few seasons left at the top, and Green is still a free agent.
Green’s free agency could end soon, with the likely outcome being a return to Golden State. The Warriors couldn’t reel in the big fish in LeBron James, so with plenty of room to reward Green, the Warriors should be bringing him back.
Jimmy Butler’s return from injury, the addition of rookie Yaxel Lendeborg, and the re-signings of Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford should put this team in playoff contention when combined with Curry’s high-level play.
Curry’s health hurt the Warriors and is giving them a tough reality check when he’s not on the floor. The post-Curry and Green era is fast approaching, and the Warriors need an answer.
