‘SPECIAL,’ ‘Such a Baller’ — NBA World Reacts As Yaxel Lendeborg Comes Up Clutch, Powers Warriors to Summer League Championship

Yaxel Lendeborg generates major buzz with his two-way heroics in the Warriors' NBA Summer League championship win.

Yaxel Lendeborg continued his big year on Sunday. Fresh off winning the 2026 NCAA title with Michigan, the dynamic forward led the Golden State Warriors to this year’s NBA Summer League championship.

After coming up clutch on both ends of the floor in the marquee showdown against Memphis Grizzlies No. 3 pick Cameron Boozer, Lendeborg had the NBA world singing his praises.

Lendeborg, one of the older prospects (23) in the 2026 NBA Draft, was billed by PFSN as a “high-IQ, versatile forward with a relentless motor and outstanding defensive anticipation,” who could serve as a high-impact rotation player from Day 1.

Looking to retool its roster around veteran superstar guard Stephen Curry, Golden State pounced on the opportunity to select Lendeborg at No. 11, and the former Wolverine looked as good as advertised in the Summer League.

After leading the Warriors to a 4-1 start in Las Vegas, Lendeborg earned another opportunity to raise his profile among NBA supporters with a championship matchup against Boozer, the 2026 National College Player of the Year.

Lendeborg rose to the occasion, posting a game-high 21 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 2 3-pointers, while shooting 9-for-18 overall (50%).

After relentlessly attacking the basket early on, Lendeborg asserted himself in crunch time, hitting a go-ahead step-back triple to give Golden State an 89-87 lead with 2:02 remaining. He then converted a midrange jumper to extend the Warriors’ advantage to 91-87 with 1:30 to go before securing a critical defensive rebound off Boozer’s missed game-winning 3-point attempt in the final seconds.

Golden State ultimately outscored Memphis 28-14 in the fourth quarter to clinch a hard-fought 94-90 victory, with Lendeborg garnering high praise from the NBA community on X.

“YAXEL LENDEBORG IS SPECIAL. CLUTCH,” Hoop Central exclaimed.

“Yaxel Lendeborg not playing like a rookie during Summer League,” Michigan reporter Brice Marich observed.

“Yaxel Lendeborg has been so impressive on both ends of the floor in the clutch, no wonder he helped his college team win the title. I thought he was built to be more of a role player, and he can be that, but he showed star potential in this game as a closer. … I’m excited about his upcoming rookie season,” NBA content creator Jim Park wrote.

“Yaxel Lendeborg is such a baller,” Yahoo Sports’ Kevin O’Connor gushed.

“Yaxel Lendeborg will be a legit superstar, he doesn’t even know it,” fan account Yaxel LendeBeast predicted.

Following his two-way heroics, Lendeborg was named the game’s MVP. The 2026 Big Ten Player of the Year said the honor “means a lot” to him, adding that he has “something to prove” every time he steps on the court.

Lendeborg’s blend of confidence and NBA-ready skill set should bode well for his chances of carving out a key role during his rookie season with the Warriors.
