ESPN’s Brian Windhorst Explains Why LeBron James’ Move to Contender ‘Makes Even More Sense’ Than Cavs

Brian Windhorst thinks that the Miami Heat would be a better fit than Cleveland for LeBron James' next destination.

LeBron James sits with multiple NBA teams that would like to sign him. Yet, he doesn’t seem in a hurry to pick his team. As summer wears on, the free agent keeps his options open. While every team in the chase presents different opportunities, all of them want the same endgame.

They believe that James is the final piece to what they envision as a championship. As rumors continue to swirl about the 41-year-old’s future, a possible reunion in a familiar place looms large. Yet, an NBA insider believes that James would be better suited heading off to another franchise.

NBA Insider Thinks LeBron James Would Fit Better in Miami than in Cleveland

Brian Windhorst knows James better than most media, covering him since his days as a prep phenom in Ohio. As a result, he maintains a fairly strong gauge regarding James’ direction and some of his intentions. On his ” Hoop Collective” podcast, the veteran reporter discusses what he believes is Miami’s better choice for the generational star.

“You know that I’m from Cleveland, you know my ties there. The more I’ve looked at this, and the more I’ve had conversations, the more Miami makes sense to me [for LeBron]. And now, when I hear him thinking about a couple of years, it makes even more sense to me.”

In Miami, James would see a potentially open championship window for a longer time. First, he knows head coach Erik Spoelstra’s offense, having won back-to-back championships with him. Next, the ages of the other two stars on the team should attract James. Bam Adebayo turns 29 on July 18.

Giannis Antetokounmpo turns 32 in December. Additionally, the duo is signed for at least the next two seasons, with each holding a player option over $50 million. Most importantly, their style of play fits into what James does best. Antetokounmpo and Adebayo finish well in the paint.

For a player with James’ elite court vision, those passes will put both of them in a prime position to become even more efficient scorers. Moreover, his presence will prevent double teams from finding either one of them, freeing them up to play well.

Meanwhile, in Cleveland, the future looks less certain. James Harden becomes a free agent after the upcoming season. Furthermore, he turns 37 in August. As Jalen Brunson proved in the playoffs, Harden fades in defensive situations. Also, Harden plays a ball-dominant game that does not help with ball movement. Yet, the allure of finishing your career where he started could loom large.

With no timetable, it’s anyone’s guess when James makes his choice. Miami and Cleveland could be the final two teams in his search.
