The Heat superstar not only broke Kobe Bryant’s iconic feat of 81 points, but also earned a nomination for Best Single-Game Performance at the 2026 ESPYs, alongside LA Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani, Notre Dame’s Hannah Hidalgo, and Baylor Athletics’ Tyce Armstrong for this historic feat.

During the red carpet interview with ESPN reporters Christine Williamson and Kevin Negandhi at the 2026 ESPY Awards, Bam Adebayo kept it real, breaking down the physical toll of his record-setting night and the pure grit required to pull it off.
“How exhausted I was,” shared Adebayo. “Most people don’t talk about like we had guys out, mainly 3 of our 5 starters…we were in this funk. Obviously, D Wade did add by saying we had no buzz in the city. Love you, D Wade. I just got going early, and it just went from there.”

The grueling toll was totally worth it, as it put him in an ultra-exclusive NBA club. Discussing his ESPY nomination, the three-time All-Star highlighted the deep significance of matching the score with the legendary Lakers icon.
“Why I should win? I feel like everybody is a fan of Kobe,” Adebayo said. “To have my name cemented next to him, doing something that not a lot of people can do, and having an opportunity to be part of that was truly special. I mean, it’s 83 points in an NBA game, huh!”
The award ultimately went to Shohei Ohtani for his NLCS masterclass against the Brewers, where he pitched six scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts and hit three home runs in Game 4. But Adebayo’s legendary night remains etched in basketball history and solidified his place among the absolute elite, trailing only Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point game.
Adebayo stayed on the floor for 42 minutes, and it required the absolute best of him. The 28-year-old dropped a staggering 83 points with nine rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocks while shooting 20-of-43 from the field (46.5%) and 7-of-22 from beyond the arc (31.8%).
However, this statistical brilliance drew plenty of skepticism and shade, primarily because of his heavy reliance on the charity stripe, which padded his stat sheet. The two-time NBA Finalist set all-time single-game records for both free throws made and attempted after going 36-of-43 from the free-throw line.
Whether fans view it as an unguardable display of dominance or a fluke, surpassing Kobe Bryant’s iconic 81-point mark was a feat very few will ever replicate. No one can take this away from Bam Adebayo.
