LeBron James has already been testing NBA free agency for two weeks. Based on some reports, the 41-year-old may be nearing a decision on his next destination.
Until he reaches an agreement with a new team, opinions will continue to drop in from all sorts of different ventures. That includes comedians.
ESPY’s Host Makes Recruiting Pitch to James
Everyone has an opinion on the NBA’s all-time scoring leader. Love him or hate him, the world can’t stop talking about James. Usually, discussions center on his legacy and standing among the greatest basketball players of all time.
In this case, people want to know which team he will be joining for a record-extending 24th NBA season. As the days go by, more executives, coaches, and players have had a chance to make their recruiting pitch to the Akron, Ohio native.
Now, 2026 ESPYs host and famed comedian Marcello Hernandez has given it a shot too. Hernandez is from Miami, Florida, so you already know which team he’s rooting for.
“It’s very simple, LeBron. Florida, right? Towards the end of your career, Florida, taxes, golf. I mean, it feels like a no-brainer, doesn’t it?”

To help state his case, Hernandez added that James already returned to Cleveland, so now it’s time for him to return to Miami, too. By the way, his return to Cleveland went well, as the Cavaliers won the NBA Finals in his second season back home.
A similar storyline taking place in South Beach would certainly satisfy fans like Hernandez. Yet on this go-around, James may not have the patience or time to wait until Year 2 to win a championship; he could be prepared to retire after the 2026-27 season wraps up.
Thus, knowing this could be his final chapter, it only makes sense for the 21-time All-NBA selection to think long and hard about his next move. Because chances are, it will be the final move he makes on the basketball court as a player.
While he and his team may not say it outright, the goal is to add to his championship total. Whichever franchise James’ group feels like can give him the best chance to win a fifth NBA Finals ring will probably end up with the future Hall of Famer.
Just who that is yet remains to be seen.
