‘Completely Different Situation’ – NBA Insider Drops Massive Update On LeBron James’ Contract Demands Amid Free Agency

NBA insider Brian Windhorst believes that LeBron James could sign for a contract that is close to the league minimum.

Despite playing over 20 seasons, into his 40s, forward LeBron James remains the most coveted free agent still on the market. Normally, at his advanced NBA age and experience, he would either be retired or hanging on to a roster spot.

However, James still averaged over 20 points last season. As a result, the NBA icon could be looking to end his career with a title contender, possibly heading off into the metaphorical sunset with a ring. One NBA insider believes that a major obstacle that looked like an obstacle could clear up relatively soon.

NBA Insider Thinks LeBron James Could Play for the Veteran Minimum

LeBron James, not just for his on-court exploits, garnered praise; his pay scale also drew attention. Having made $581,375,548 on the court and more than that off it, the forward is a rarity.

According to Forbes, the 41-year-old is a billionaire as an active player. Still a free agent, suitors continue to line up to entice the 21-time All-NBA selection, according to ESPN NBA insider Brian Windhorst, who could take a pay cut for the right team.

“He’s willing to play essentially for next to the league minimum. Any team has the option to go get him, so it’s a completely different situation.” @WindhorstESPN on LeBron James having his options wide open for free agency.”

This gives teams that appear either strapped financially or near the salary cap apron extra hope that they will now enter the sweepstakes to procure his services. For example, the Golden State Warriors employ two players, Steph Curry and Jimmy Butler, who are scheduled to make over $50 million during the upcoming season.

Plus, big man Kristaps Porziņģis will earn $20 million. From a financial standpoint, James, if willing to take less, fits well into the financial situation. Also, it could make sense from a basketball standpoint. Curry is a point guard with unlimited range on the shot. Butler is a three-level scorer who can slash to the rim.

Porzingis is a seven-footer that can make outside shots but gives the Warriors a post presence as well. James’ passing and ability to finish at the rim make the Warriors a possible title contender.

Philadelphia would also make sense. Three players, center Joel Embiid, forward Jaylen Brown, and point guard Tyrese Maxey, will all take home at least $40 million in salary this season. A low-cost James works well financially. Yet the difference between the Warriors and the 76ers is that Philadelphia has more talent. VJ Edgecombe provides another offensive opposition with the ability to take over games.

If what Windhorst asserts is correct, James, at a discount, could vault a fringe contender into a legitimate threat, if the price is right for all involved.
