LeBron James shook the NBA landscape after declaring his return for a historic 24th season. The 4-time NBA MVP has finally moved on from the Lakers following an impactful eight-year stint, during which he averaged 25.9 points, 7.9 assists, and 7.7 rebounds across 479 games and won the 2020 NBA Championship.
Now an unrestricted free agent, the 41-year-old NBA superstar is searching for his next destination while prioritizing title contention over a maximum payday.
Sam Quinn Imagines a LeBron James-Nikola Jokić Pair in Denver Amid Free Agency Stagnation
As front offices across the league scramble to clear cap space to acquire James, some analysts are pointing toward Denver as the ultimate basketball destination for the megastar.
While the rumor mill is running fiercely, LeBron James’ agent, Rich Paul, told ESPN on Friday that 27 teams have approached him so far. The 4-time NBA champion might be hitting the twilight years of his career, but his presence on the floor still commands respect.
With 1,622 games over 23 seasons under his belt, James has averaged 26.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 7.4 assists per game while shooting 50.7% from the field and 34.8% from beyond the arc.
Recently, CBS Sports’ NBA writer Sam Quinn sparked a social media debate after posting a poll about which team fits LeBron better: the Denver Nuggets or the Minnesota Timberwolves.
ALL NBA podcast co-host Adam Mares called the Mile High City “easily” the best fit for King James. He tweeted, “I feel like I’m taking crazy pills, how people talk about LeBron’s fit in Denver. Easily, EASILY the best basketball fit.”
Quinn agreed with Mares, noting that, despite Minnesota needing a PF more than the Nuggets do, the Jokić-LeBron pairing would be more destructive.
“I think Denver and Minnesota are the best basketball fits,” Quinn wrote. “There’s more of a PF need in Minnesota, but yes, obviously, the Jokić-LeBron mind meld would be spectacular.”

Pairing the 22-time All-Star with an 8-time All-Star like Nikola Jokić creates a dominant duo that could shift the balance. With another big man on the floor, LeBron James’ burden would be reduced, giving the veteran freedom to focus on high-impact scoring and elite playmaking.
But the question remains: would the presence of a 3-time MVP overshadow James’ role on the court? This is a problem the all-time leading scorer faced with the Lakers, who are now building a potential young rotation around their primary playmaker, Luka Dončić.
With the superstar in question still navigating the free agency market, looking for the best place to chase his 5th ring, whether this partnership materializes or fades into offseason lore, only time will tell.
