Philadelphia is known as the “City of Brotherly Love,” and the 76ers community has welcomed newly acquired wing Jaylen Brown to the team with open arms.
One of his new teammates, VJ Edgecombe, embodied the city’s moniker by calling Brown on his Twitch livestream and showcasing the Philadelphia-style warmth the city is famous for.
VJ Edgecombe Reaches Out to New Teammate Jaylen Brown 1 Day After Celtics-76ers Trade
Brown, who was traded to the 76ers in exchange for Paul George and four draft picks on Wednesday, was live on his Twitch stream the day after the deal was reported, when he received a call from Edgecombe.
Edgecombe greeted the five-time All-Star and asked how he felt after the transaction. Brown said he is still processing what happened over the past 24 hours and told his new teammate he is ready to get to work.
Brown also expressed admiration for the Bahamian high-flyer, who quickly proved he belonged in the NBA after just one college season at Baylor. The 2024 NBA Finals MVP also told Edgecombe that he is ready to give his all to help the 76ers win a title and end their 43-year championship drought.
“I’m a fan of your game,” Brown said during the stream. “Let’s get it.”

Edgecombe’s explosiveness and slashing ability alongside Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid, and George helped Philadelphia make the 2026 playoffs. The 76ers upset Brown and the Celtics in the first round to reach the Eastern Conference semifinals, where the New York Knicks swept them in four games.
Brown, who led the Celtics to the No. 2 seed in the East despite missing superstar teammate Jayson Tatum for most of the 2025-26 regular season, now forms a potential superteam with Maxey, Embiid, and Edgecombe.
The 76ers will be better positioned to contend with the reigning NBA champion Knicks and conference heavyweights like the Detroit Pistons, Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Giannis Antetokounmpo-led Miami Heat.
Brown admitted Thursday that he is still “processing” how the trade “went down” and is torn by a mix of excitement and disappointment as he enters his next career chapter.
This past season, the 29-year-old averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game, earning a second-team All-NBA selection and finishing sixth in the MVP voting.
