‘How Many Hall of Famers You Want To Team Up With?’ — NBA Legend ‘Cringes’ at Idea of LeBron James Joining Stephen Curry’s Warriors

As LeBron James is linked to the Warriors in free agency, NBA legend Paul Pierce explained why he's against the potential move.

With LeBron James deciding to leave the Los Angeles Lakers, speculation about his next destination has intensified, with the Golden State Warriors emerging as one of the leading possibilities. However, NBA legend Paul Pierce made it clear that he is not supportive of James joining the Warriors.

Paul Pierce Not Sold on LeBron James Joining Golden State Warriors

James would immediately make the Warriors a contender while teaming up with his longtime rival, Stephen Curry, on a team that desperately wants one more championship run. With James, Curry, Draymond Green, and Kristaps Porziņģis, Golden State would have another star-studded lineup.

According to James’ agent Rich Paul, his top priority at this stage of his career is finding “complete happiness.” If his focus is on happiness and contending for one last title, the Warriors could represent an ideal destination. The organization has earned a reputation for taking care of its veteran stars, making Golden State an even more attractive landing spot.

However, on the latest episode of the “No Fouls Given” podcast, Pierce made it clear he isn’t feeling James’ potential move to the Warriors.

“When I think about the Warriors, I’m like, I cringe a little bit,” Pierce said. “Because it’s just like, man, come on. How many like Hall-of-Famer superstars do you want to team up with? It starts to turn into a spectacle. You know, it starts to turn into that because you guys aren’t going to win. But you guys are two of the biggest superstars the NBA has ever had.”

Pierce admitted that it would be a “dope” spectacle that sells a lot of tickets and is fun to watch, but he feels Golden State wouldn’t be able to contend in the West.

“Let’s be realistic. Stop looking at the names. Look at what they are today and look at the rest of the conference… You’re not looking for that team to win nothing,” Pierce said.

James is turning 42 in December, Curry is 38, and Green is 36. Building a championship team around three stars whose average age is nearly 39 presents huge physical risks. These three are still productive, but many will see this as a gamble.

Another issue is roster construction, as even if the Warriors manage to add James alongside Curry, Green, and Porziņģis, they would have very limited resources to build a quality supporting cast. A lack of reliable bench depth can prove costly in the playoffs, making the team feel more like a star-powered attraction than a legitimate title favorite.

James has continued to defy expectations with his durability. He appeared in 60 games for the Los Angeles Lakers last season and remained highly productive, averaging 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game while shooting 51.5% from the field, 31.7% from beyond the arc, and 73.7% from the free-throw line across 33.2 minutes per contest. In the playoffs, he showed he could still put a team on his back, elevating the injury-depleted Lakers past the Houston Rockets in the first round.

The Warriors are among several teams that have contacted James’ representatives after he informed the Lakers he would not return for the upcoming season. The Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers, Denver Nuggets, and Minnesota Timberwolves are also reportedly among the teams pursuing James.
