Giannis Antetokounmpo has been heavily linked with a trade to the Miami Heat in recent weeks. The Greek superstar seems to be done with the Milwaukee Bucks and looks to land on a team where he could finally have a clear shot at winning his second NBA chip. The Boston Celtics are also reported to be interested, with both teams offering packages.
Now, according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line, a third franchise has entered the picture in a way that could be the key to making the whole deal work.

Tyler Herro Could Be Included In a 3-Team Deal For Giannis Antetokounmpo
Stein’s report lands at a time when the Bucks and Heat are stuck in negotiations, and Detroit’s potential involvement could be exactly the bridge the two sides need to get a deal over the line.
“The Pistons, I’m told, should be monitored as a potential third-team facilitator in a Giannis Antetokounmpo-to-Miami trade…with Tyler Herro ultimately landing in Detroit,” Stein wrote.
Stein also mentioned, “The Eastern Conference’s lone 60-win team this season is known to be eager to add shooting around Cade Cunningham and is believed to be aggressively exploring its options in the marketplace beyond two oft-cited trade targets who would be much harder to acquire than Herro: Dallas’ Kyrie Irving and New Orleans’ Trey Murphy III.”
The Pistons posted 60 wins this season, the most in the Eastern Conference, and were exposed in the playoffs by a lack of perimeter shooting around Cade Cunningham. Herro is exactly the kind of player J.B. Bickerstaff’s team has been missing.
The 26-year-old averaged 20.5 points and 4.1 assists per game this season, shot 37.8% from three, and is under contract for $33 million annually. He fits Detroit’s timeline, upgrades their ceiling immediately, and solves the specific problem that held them back when games mattered most.
For Miami, losing Herro is painful, but Antetokounmpo is a two-time MVP and a generational talent who gives the Heat a genuine title contender overnight. Bringing Detroit in to absorb Herro while redirecting draft assets through a third team is exactly the kind of creative architecture that gets a complex deal done.
The Celtics remain in the conversation, though there is growing reluctance on Boston’s part to include Jaylen Brown in any offer. Multiple sources describe Antetokounmpo as personally preferring Miami, giving the Heat a quiet edge even as negotiations continue.
Whether the Pistons’ involvement is the missing piece that gets this trade across the finish line before draft night remains to be seen.
But for a Detroit franchise that has spent years rebuilding and finally has the wins to prove it works, getting Herro without giving up anything from their core would be a serious win in its own right.
