‘Talks Have Intensified’ — Giannis Antetokounmpo Has Zeroed In on 1 NBA Team Amid Trade Rumors

An NBA insider reveals that Giannis Antetokounmpo's preference is to join the Heat, but the Celtics are also trying to enter the sweepstakes.

Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo is one of the best players in the NBA, with the accolades to prove it. Yet over the last couple of years, he’s watched his surrounding cast change and dwindle in terms of talent.

The Bucks finished 32-50 and missed the playoffs, and Antetokounmpo is 31 years old. Milwaukee is reportedly fielding offers for Antetokounmpo, who apparently has the Miami Heat atop his wish list.

Giannis Antetokounmpo ‘Focused’ On Joining Miami Heat

Antetokounmpo remains far and away the best player on the Bucks with no real second option, and the team isn’t close to contending for a title. Over the past couple of seasons, rumors have swirled that Antetokounmpo may ultimately request a trade.

As a result, multiple teams are trying to pry him away from Milwaukee. However, the Miami Heat are reportedly the preferred destination for Antetokounmpo, according to ESPN NBA insider Brian Windhorst.

“The league believes this is finally going to happen… Talks have intensified over the last 7-10 days,” Windhorst said. “He has focused on wanting to be a member of the Miami Heat. Because he has only one year left on his contract, he has some control over [his future].”

Windhorst noted that the Heat and Bucks have been talking for months, but they have not agreed to a deal since Milwaukee doesn’t love Miami’s offers, which are expected to include Tyler Herro, the No. 13 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, among other assets.

However, Windhorst notes that the Boston Celtics have emerged as a potential suitor for Antetokounmpo as well, so it remains to be seen which team can put together a better offer after involving other teams.

Dallas Hoops Journal writer Grant Afseth notes that the Los Angeles Clippers are a team to watch that could help facilitate a three- or four-team trade.

“A potential multi-team trade framework making the rounds in league circles would bring Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Boston Celtics and send Jaylen Brown to the Los Angeles Clippers, with the Clippers’ No. 5 overall pick going to the Milwaukee Bucks as part of the return, sources told Dallas Hoops Journal,” he wrote.

It remains to be seen whether Antetokounmpo will get traded, but it certainly seems like the sweepstakes is heating up.
