San Antonio forward Victor Wembanyama was unable to make good on his promise of mounting a comeback against the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals. The Knicks once again clawed back a deficit to close out Game 5 94-90 to take the series 4-1 and win the NBA title in San Antonio on Saturday evening.

Fans Slam Victor Wembanyama’s NBA Finals Assertion
While speaking to reporters during his postgame news conference, Wembanyama insisted that the Spurs dominated the whole series against the Knicks and only lost due to small errors.
“One of the many things I learned was that the margin of error is very, very thin,” Wembanyama said. “Our domination stints are absolute. We absolutely dominated for most of the series, but our errors, our mistakes, are punished so hard that we can’t have ups and downs like this so much. It’s the reason we lost.”
NBA fans and analysts on X had mixed reactions to the polarizing forward’s assertion about the Spurs’ dominance.
Barstool founder Dave Portnoy blasted the Spurs forward for his performance during the clutch moments in the series.
“This fu**ing guy. You were a mouse when in mattered every game,” Portnoy wrote.
‘Barstool Sports’ analyst Meek Phil celebrated the Knicks beating Wembanyama’s Spurs to the title.
“It’s even sweeter that the win came vs this entitled loser,” Phil posted.
Sports-talk radio host Danielle McCartan vehemently disagreed with Wembanyama’s comments and referenced the Spurs forward’s comments directed at Knicks center Mitchell Robinson during Game 4.
“Absolutely delusional take from the world’s tallest baby and choke artist. Who is in whose head now?!” McCartan wrote.
Sports fan, ‘Madyson’ was not amused by Wembanyama’s behavior after the Knicks edged the series in five games.
“This shit has me laughing. Too young to know what good sportsmanship is and not being a sore loser. They’ll learn soon,” Madyson posted.
‘Max’ was left in disbelief at Wembanyama’s strong assertion about the balance of the NBA Finals series.
“This is a crazy quote. Biggest loser of all time,” Max wrote.
The Spurs famously blew a 29-point lead to the Knicks in Game 4, which would have tied the series 2-2 headed back to San Antonio, allowing the Knicks to complete the biggest comeback in NBA Finals history on Wednesday.
The Spurs also surprisingly held at least a 12-point lead in all five games of the series against the Knicks, but were only able to convert one of them into a win in Game 3. Since selecting Wembanyama with the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, the Spurs have improved and returned to relevance in the NBA championship picture.
