Is Jalen Williams Playing in Game 7? Latest Injury Update on Thunder Star for WCF Clash vs. Spurs

NBA insider Shams Charania drops a crucial injury update on Jalen Williams ahead of the Oklahoma City Thunder vs. the San Antonio Spurs.

The Oklahoma City Thunder held a 3-2 series lead heading into Game 6. The defending champs have been dominating on multiple occasions, even without their star Jalen Williams. But his absence was certainly noticeable in Game 6. The San Antonio Spurs won 118-91.

Now, the series is tied. There is a crucial injury update on Williams ahead of the series decider at the Paycom Center.

What Is Jalen Williams’ Injury Status?

Williams attempted a comeback in Game 6. But he managed to play 10 minutes. Unlike his usual self, Williams was only able to score one point. He did not speak to the media after the loss. Now, less than 48 hours later, the answer on his availability for Saturday’s Game 7 is here.

Per ESPN’s Shams Charania, Williams has been officially ruled out for Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals against the San Antonio Spurs. The left hamstring that has has been his biggest problem all postseason.

The injury timeline tells us how brutal this stretch has been for him. Williams missed six straight playoff games with a Grade 1 left hamstring strain before returning for Game 1 of this series.

He re-aggravated it in Game 2, playing only seven minutes before being forced out. He was ruled out for Games 3, 4, and 5. He tried to push through for Game 6 and managed 10 minutes on one good leg.

Now he is out for the biggest game of OKC’s season so far. It is a devastating period for a player who was touted to be the team’s second-best player after a career-best season last year. While OKC lifted its first NBA title in the city’s history, Williams averaged 21.4 points and 5.5 rebounds.

Make no mistake, it is pretty evident that Thunder can win without Williams. They have gone 7-0 in this postseason when Williams did not play. They beat the Los Angeles Lakers in four games without him. They won Games 3, 4, and 5 of this series without him, including a 127-114 road win in Game 5 when Shai Gilgeous-Alexander dropped 40 points.

Williams averaged 17.1 points per game during the regular season. He is OKC’s second-best offensive player and one of the most versatile wings in the league when healthy.

Without him, Mark Daigneault will rely on McCain in the starting lineup, with Cason Wallace, Alex Caruso, and Lu Dort carrying the defensive load against Stephon Castle, Dylan Harper, and Devin Vassell. Ajay Mitchell remains out as well with a right calf strain.

The Spurs has its own injury concerns. De’Aaron Fox and Dylan Harper have both been hurt throughout this series. But Victor Wembanyama has been extraordinary, and the Spurs just won by 27 in Game 6 on their home floor.

The momentum tips the scales in the Spurs’ favor, but we all know what OKC and SGA can do when they are at their best. With that said, it is clear that Wemby and SGA will face off one last time this year for yet another classic playoff night.
