‘Special Season Unfolding’ — NBA World Reacts to Kon Knueppel Shattering Hornets Icon Kemba Walker’s Franchise 3-Point Record

Hornets rookie Kon Knueppel had a big night on Thursday night against the Suns, shattering a long-held 3-point franchise record.

Charlotte Hornets rookie Kon Knueppel loves putting up shots from beyond the 3-point arc, and it’s a key part of his game.

He’s even putting himself among elite players who have worn a Hornets jersey. On Thursday night, Knueppel passed Charlotte legend Kemba Walker in setting a new team record.

Kon Knueppel Breaks Hornets’ 3-Point Record

What record did Knueppel smash? It was the Hornets’ record for most 3-pointers made in a season. Knueppel has hit 261 3-pointers in the 2025-26 NBA regular season.

Walker had the original record when he hit 260 3-pointers during the 2018-19 season. Knueppel, in fact, is currently the NBA leader in 3-pointers made this season, just a few ahead of Los Angeles Lakers forward-guard Luka Dončić.

CLTGuide’s account, which is the official guide of Charlotte, North Carolina, shared the news about Knueppel’s big-time effort with its followers on X.

The NBA’s account on X let the NBA and sports world know what Knueppel had accomplished in the Hornets’ 127-107 win over the Phoenix Suns. The account posted, “MOST THREES IN A SEASON BY A HORNET KON 261 KEMBA 260 Congrats, @Kon2Knueppel!”

SleeperHoops’ account on X shared the news about Knueppel’s record-setting effort. The account posted, “BREAKING: Kon Knueppel breaks the Charlotte Hornets franchise record for 3PM in a single season. LEGEND.”

Yankee, who works in sports analytics, also took note of Knueppel’s effort: “Wow, what an incredible achievement! Kon Knueppel is really making a name for himself this season!”

Steve Reed, who covers the Hornets for The Associated Press in Charlotte, North Carolina, noted some comments that Knueppel made after his historic night. “Kon Knueppel said he has exceeded his own expectations after breaking the Hornets franchise record,” Reed posted on X.

Knueppel was the No. 4 overall pick by the Hornets in the 2025 NBA Draft out of Duke. Against the Suns, he made four 3-pointers to set the new team record. After missing a couple of 3-point shots in the fourth quarter, Knueppel finally hit one to move past Walker in the franchise record book.

With their 41-36 record, the Hornets are currently in eighth place in the NBA’s Eastern Conference. Knueppel’s play this season is a big reason that Charlotte finds itself in the NBA playoff hunt.
