The Miami Heat may have clinched a play-in spot on Sunday, but they find themselves in a difficult stretch. They’ve lost seven of their last eight games and show little sign of regaining momentum.
That frustration was evident in Sunday night’s 135-118 loss to the tanking Indiana Pacers, where a fully healthy Miami roster fell flat. After the game slipped away, Bam Adebayo and head coach Erik Spoelstra urged the team to lock in and respond down the stretch.
Why Bam Adebayo Is Frustrated With the Miami Heat’s Recent Slump
Miami once sat sixth in the Eastern Conference and looked like a strong playoff contender, opening March with a seven-game winning streak, during which Adebayo erupted for 83 points. Since then, however, the team has stumbled badly. A five-game losing streak was briefly snapped with a 120-103 win over the Cavaliers, but Miami has since dropped its last two games.
The latest loss stings even more given the opponent. Indiana entered the night at 16-58, last in the East, making the defeat all the more concerning.
Speaking after the game, Adebayo pointed to communication, particularly on defense, as a major issue.
“I just think we gotta communicate more on the defensive end. I feel like a lot of that first half was us not communicating… We were blitzed. We weren’t communicating, so they were getting open threes. Things like that, we gotta clean up…You always gotta be positive — you always gotta think the next game could spark something,” he said.

With the loss, Miami dropped to 39-36 and now sits ninth in the East, having officially clinched at least a play-in spot. But Adebayo made it clear that’s not where the team wants to be.
“I get that atleast we’re in the play-in but like nobody wants be in that. So for us we really gotta buckle down and get after it,” he added.
Adebayo and Tyler Herro led the team, while Davion Mitchell, Pelle Larsson, and Andrew Wiggins also contributed, but it wasn’t enough to offset a strong showing from Indiana’s bench.

Despite the struggles, Spoelstra remains confident the team can respond.
“I know our guys want this. We’ll take this L, take that last L against Cleveland, two very disappointing losses, and go back to Miami and figure out how to get this win. We know what it is, we know what we have to do,” he said.
Miami is just three games back of the sixth-seeded Atlanta Hawks, and with seven games remaining, a late push into the playoff picture is still within reach. But based on their recent form, turning things around will require a significant shift.
