Luka Dončić Joins Kobe Bryant in Lakers History With Major 2,000-Point Milestone

Luka Dončić reaching 2,000 points faster than any Laker since Kobe Bryant cements his new legendary status in Los Angeles.

Luka Dončić keeps stacking milestones, and this latest one came during the Los Angeles Lakers’ matchup against the Detroit Pistons. In the middle of his ongoing scoring surge, Dončić crossed the 2,000-point mark for the season, becoming the fastest Laker to reach that total since Kobe Bryant in 2005-06.

It’s another reminder of how quickly he has taken over in Los Angeles, and with the way he’s scoring, he doesn’t look close to slowing down.

Luka Dončić Reaches 2,000 Points, Joins Kobe Bryant in Lakers History

Dončić hit the 2,000-point milestone during the Lakers’ 113-110 loss to the Pistons. This feat added another achievement to what has already been a standout season.

The ESPN Insights account highlighted the achievement on X, writing:

“Luka has scored 2k points this season 🔥

Doncic is the fastest Laker to reach 2,000 points in a season since Kobe Bryant in 2005-06 🐍”

Despite an off shooting night in that game, Dončić still led the Lakers with 32 points, along with 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals. His efficiency dipped, shooting 37.9% from the field and 23.1% from three, but his overall impact remained consistent.

Reaching 2,000 points this quickly places him alongside Bryant in Lakers history. He is now the fastest player from the franchise to hit that mark in a season since Bryant’s 2005-06 campaign.

The milestone comes during a dominant stretch. Dončić’s 60-point performance against the Miami Heat on March 19, where he added 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 5 steals in a 134-126 win, helped push him closer to the mark.

That game also made him the first Laker since Bryant to score 60 points. Besides, Dončić has also been on a dominant scoring run, recording 30 or more points in 10 consecutive games.

For the season, he is averaging 33.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 8.4 assists, along with 1.6 steals, while shooting 47.4% from the field and 36.4% from three. Moreover, the Slovenian sensation currently leads the league in scoring.

Dončić’s form has been central to the Lakers’ recent run, with the team going 9-1 over their last 10 games.

Since arriving in Los Angeles in February 2025 in a blockbuster trade that sent Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks, Dončić has quickly become the focal point of the franchise. The Lakers reinforced that commitment with a three-year, $165 million extension in August 2025.

In his first full season with the team, he is already justifying that investment.

Over his eight-year NBA career, Dončić has scored 14,883 points and averages around 1,860 points per season. He has previously crossed the 2,000-point mark twice with the Mavericks, including a 2,370-point season in 2023-24 that led Dallas to the NBA Finals.

At his current scoring pace with the Lakers, he is on track to surpass those totals again.

The Lakers, meanwhile, currently sit third in the Western Conference at 46-26, holding a two-game lead over the Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets, and Minnesota Timberwolves.
