Colin Cowherd Claims JJ Redick Helped Curb Luka Dončić’s Referee Complaints by Redirecting His Frustration Toward Opponents

Colin Cowherd claims Lakers coach JJ Redick helped curb Luka Dončić’s referee complaints by redirecting his trash talk.

Luka Dončić has had issues with the referees as of late. While he technically already has a long history of heated exchanges with officials, it seems to have gotten worse this season.

In the Los Angeles Lakers’ most recent game against the Orlando Magic, the referees issued Dončić his 16th technical foul of the season, which could have resulted in a one-game suspension without pay.

However, the league has since rescinded the officials’ decision, reverting his technical foul count to 15.

How Lakers Coach JJ Redick Redirected Luka Dončić’s Trash Talk

Sports analyst Colin Cowherd recently said that he noticed Lakers head coach JJ Redick has helped curb Dončić’s complaining. The Lakers star has become known as one of the NBA’s biggest trash-talkers lately.

Aware of his talents, Dončić loves seeing the frustrated look on opponents’ faces when he outplays them. However, in recent memory, he has found himself getting into more heated arguments with referees than ever before.

While many see this as an issue, Lakers head coach Redick believes otherwise. In a recent episode of “The Volume,” sports analyst Cowherd suggested that Redick has no problem with Dončić’s trash-talking.

“Luka is so gifted, he’s moved off officials to some degree,” Cowherd said.

However, he would much rather see his star player take his frustrations out on opponents rather than wasting his energy on officials.

“He’s moved into opponents and fans. I think JJ Redick has told Luka, ‘I don’t mind the trash talk, just direct it to other people,'” Cowherd added.

True enough, it appears that Dončić has found his rhythm after leading the Lakers to a nine-game winning streak. Los Angeles has been on a roll as of late, thanks to the leadership Dončić has brought to the hardwood, with the Lakers enjoying a nine-game winning streak.

Looking at his numbers during the team’s hot streak, Dončić has averaged roughly 40 points per game while also contributing heavily in rebounds and assists. The six-time NBA All-Star’s remarkable numbers set a new NBA record as he became the first player to score 30 or more points in every game of a nine-game winning streak.

While the Slovenian star would still have his moments butting heads with referees, it’s clear that Dončić has locked in and is more focused on helping the team secure a good playoff spot.
