Cooper Flagg Becomes 1st Rookie Since Stephen Curry to Post 27 Points, 6 Rebounds, and 10 Assists in a Single Game

Cooper Flagg posted 27 points, 10 assists, and 6 rebounds against Cleveland, numbers no rookie has matched since Stephen Curry

Cooper Flagg was truly remarkable in the recent clash between the Dallas Mavericks and the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday afternoon, and his stat line placed him among the most accomplished rookies since Stephen Curry.

The first overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft anchored his team’s bounce-back effort after a dismal showing against the Cavaliers two nights earlier.

Cooper Flagg Etches His Name in Record Books in Mavericks-Cavaliers Rematch

Following a 138-105 defeat to Cleveland on Friday, the Mavericks bounced back in the away matchup thanks to an impressive showing from Mavs rookie Flagg. The 19-year-old was a force to be reckoned with in the Mavericks’ 130-120 win over Cleveland on Sunday.

Scoring 27 points with 10 assists and 6 rebounds, Flagg recorded a stat line no rookie had achieved since Curry in 2009.

This was the ninth time this season that Flagg recorded at least 25 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists in a game. After the feat, he said he had been feeling better and reflected on the team’s turnaround performance.

“I’m feeling better and just getting back into a rhythm. I thought we had a much better presence with our physicality and kind of stood them up a little bit. I thought we just had a lot better pace. The ball was moving with a lot of energy.”

This season has been more about rebuilding and development rather than staying highly competitive, and that trajectory has placed the Mavericks outside the playoff positions. The absence of Kyrie Irving, who is recovering from a torn ACL, has affected the team’s momentum.

P.J. Washington, who was traded to the Mavericks in February 2024, was moved to the center position and went on to contribute 20 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Rookie John Poulakidas chipped in with 10 points in the pivotal quarter, giving the Mavericks an edge.

Following an impressive run to the NBA Finals in 2024, the Mavs finished 39-43 and 10th in the Western Conference the following season, missing the playoffs. Winning the 2025 NBA Draft Lottery has unarguably boosted their rebuild with their newest prospect, Flagg.

With a 23-45 record so far this season, the Mavericks are 12th in the Western Conference and struggling to stay afloat. Their win against the Grizzlies on March 12 helped break an eight-game losing streak, and they will look to regain momentum ahead of their away game against the New Orleans Pelicans.
