Anthony Edwards didn’t think twice to take accountability for the tough loss of the Minnesota Timberwolves to one of the most defensively proficient teams, the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Wolves, who are sixth in the Western Conference, were handed a 116-103 defeat by their opponents, despite their previous win over the injury-ravaged Warriors team, with Stephen Curry stuck on the bench.

Anthony Edwards Commends OKC’s AAU Defense and Takes Accountability for the Loss
Edwards has a history of never backing down from owning up to where he believes he could have improved or played better. Even in the Clippers–Wolves game, where the Los Angeles Clippers set a franchise record with 153 points, the shooting guard took the blame on himself. However, that loss marked the last of their three-game winless run before the Minnesota Timberwolves bounced back on March 14.
However, Edwards and his team dipped again in the Wolves-Thunder game, committing a beyond-belief 22 turnovers in a 116-103 loss. The 24-year-old, who was drafted first overall in 2020, had an afternoon not memorable in the standings. He scored 19 points on 5-of-10 free-throw shooting and 6-of-17 from the floor.
In a locker conversation in Oklahoma City, he took accountability again, noting that many turnovers came from him, and his team should not be brought under fire for the fate.
“I had too many turnovers myself. I didn’t make enough shots. I don’t think it has nothing to do with my team. More so myself. I had too many turnovers and not enough made shots. It’s just that simple.”
The Oklahoma City Thunder’s defensive ability caught him and his team off guard, and according to Edwards, he should have known what they had up their sleeves.
“Like I said it’s AAU defense… Thats on me. I know what they gonna do defensively so that’s on me turning the ball over.”
We’re talking about a team that is the best in the league based on defensive rating, first in the Western Conference, and is well known for forcing turnovers. But we’re also talking about a player who is one of the best young scorers in the league, known for his big playoff performances, charismatic personality, and for representing the United States at the Olympics.
He possesses such flair that even Curry shook his head in disappointment when Edwards scored six straight points in the Warriors–Wolves game, while the veteran could do nothing but watch from the sidelines. The two intergenerational players may not be friends, but their bond is built on a strong foundation of mutual respect and admiration. Edwards will next be in action against the Phoenix Suns on March 17, 2026.
