7-Time NBA Champion Contends LeBron James Should Receive Statue in Miami Despite Leaving After 4 Seasons: ‘Fans Forget It’s a Player’s Choice’

Former Laker Robert Horry shared his two cents on LeBron James getting a statue in Miami after just four seasons with the Heat.

As far as statue talk is concerned, LeBron James getting his in Los Angeles and Miami continues to be a staple barbershop debate.

With the 41-year-old approaching the end of his storied journey in the league, the conversation has only intensified. The latest to share his views was former NBA star Robert Horry.

Former Laker Weighs In on LeBron James Receiving a Statue in Miami

Speaking on The Herd w/Colin Cowherd, former Lakers star and seven-time NBA champion Robert Horry believed the players had a choice to go to a different team if they wanted to.

The former player’s comments came after Cowherd brought up the statue discussion. Over the years, James getting a statue in Miami and Los Angeles has been widely debated. The responses have been divisive, but Horry has his view on the matter.

“A lot of times, fans forget it’s a player’s choice to decide to go where he wants to go. “He should get a statue in Cleveland. He should get a statue in LA. He should get a statue in Miami… I think he should be praised more than he is.”

James led his hometown team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, to their only NBA championship. But his history with the team, suiting up for them for 11 years, makes it a compelling case for him to get a statue in Cleveland.

The Heat was where James had his most successful runs. He won two championships with the side in his four years. He was a vital cog in two of the team’s three championships. While some fans believe this was enough of an achievement, some have a different opinion.

As for a statue with the Lakers, the debate has leaned towards the four-time NBA champion perhaps not getting a statue in LA. From a performance viewpoint, James has led the Lakers to just one title in his eight years with the franchise.

Previously, Lakers legend Byron Scott had boldly stated that James hadn’t done enough to deserve a statue in LA. “No, no statue. One championship in six, seven years. I don’t know how many years he’s been in L.A. right now, but I think if he gets another one, then he has a chance,” said Scott, per TMZ.

At this stage, another championship with the Lakers will surely make the argument stronger that James deserves a statue outside the Crypto.com Arena.

Irrespective of the opinions, what doesn’t change is James’ contribution to the sport. Playing in his 23rd year in the NBA, the veteran forward has still maintained his position as one of the best players in the league. Only time will tell if James can sign off his decorated career with a fifth ring, and possibly statues in the cities of all three teams he’s played.
