The Miami Heat have been enjoying a solid stretch this season, and before their Tuesday night game against the Washington Wizards, the team was 36–29. However, what happened during that game quickly became the biggest storyline of the night, thanks to a stunning performance from star big man Bam Adebayo.
Bam Adebayo’s First-Half Performance on Tuesday Night Stuns Everyone
Adebayo came out strong and scored 31 points in the first quarter of Tuesday night’s game alone. His dominance continued in the second quarter. By halftime, he had already reached 43 points, putting the Heat in complete control of the game.

The Heat led by 11 points at the end of the first quarter and by 14 at halftime, with the scoreboard reading 76–62 in Miami’s favor. Although Tuesday night’s performance now stands as the biggest scoring night of his career, Adebayo has produced several impressive offensive games in the past as well.
Back in 2021, he recorded 41 points against the Brooklyn Nets. That was his highest-scoring performance till now. Despite his huge effort in that game, Miami was unable to secure the win and eventually fell to Brooklyn 98–85. Another memorable performance came in 2023 when Adebayo faced the Indiana Pacers. In that game, he scored 38 points while shooting 12-for-16 from the field. His strong play helped Miami edge past Indiana 116–111.
However, Tuesday’s game took things to an entirely different level.
Adebayo’s 31-point first quarter wasn’t just impressive for Miami. But it stood out across the entire league. It became the highest-scoring first quarter by any NBA player in recent years. Only a handful of players in the last three decades have reached similar numbers in a single quarter.
For comparison, Karl-Anthony Towns once dropped 32 points in a single quarter for the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2022. The record for points in one quarter still belongs to Klay Thompson, who famously scored 37 points in a quarter in 2015. Adebayo also broke a long-standing Miami record in the process. The previous Heat mark for most points in the first quarter had been 25, set by LeBron James back in 2014.
His 43-point first half also ranked among the best scoring halves in modern NBA history. Over the past three decades, only a few players have reached that mark, including Towns, who once scored 44 points in a half. The historic record for first-half scoring remains 53 points, a mark shared by legends David Thompson and George Gervin during the same day in 1978.
If performances like this continue, Miami’s strong season could become even more exciting as they push toward the playoffs.
