LeBron James’s uncertain future with the Los Angeles Lakers after the end of the NBA 2025-26 season continues to make headlines.
Irrespective of where and how the Lakers finish, league-wide speculation is that the four-time NBA champion will likely find a new home next season if he decides to lace up for his 24th year.
Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet Makes Heartfelt Pitch to LeBron James to Join the New York Knicks
Earlier on the ‘Mind the Game‘ podcast, Chalamet, a guest on the episode, made an impassioned plea asking James to join the Knicks. “I’m feeling very good about the Knicks,” the ‘Dune’ star said as he flaunted his Knicks-themed T-shirt.
“I don’t want to interfere with any tampering rules or anything, I know there’s a prize free agent next summer, possibly sitting on my right…might not be your last year, but if it is, a farewell tour in a New York Knicks, oh my God, that would be unbelievable.” To which James responded with a smile, “We’ll talk backstage,” garnering a loud reaction from fans.
What is worth noting is that Chalamet isn’t wrong when he put the spotlight on the seasoned forward who will headline this summer’s free agency if he decides to part ways with the Purple and Gold.
James has spent eight seasons with the Lakers and has led them to a title once. Previous reports and rumor mills had listed the Knicks, along with his former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, as one of the potential destinations if he were to leave the Lakers
The Lakers have already signaled their intent that Luka Dončić is their future after they acquired the mercurial All-Star guard in a blockbuster trade last season. Should James indeed go to the Knicks, he will still be part of a team headlined by another young star, Jalen Brunson.
On the season front, James has been sidelined by a left elbow contusion and left foot arthritis. He missed the last two games for LA and has been listed as questionable ahead of Tuesday’s clash against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
This season sees the 41-year-old average 21.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 7.0 assists in 44 games for the Lakers. At the time of writing, the side is 39-25 with their last win coming against the Knicks at home.
All eyes will be on James to see when he returns to the lineup as the Lakers gear up for a stern test at home, playing the in-form Houston Rockets and the formidable Denver Nuggets.
