Veteran NBA Guard Calls Out Trae Young After Wizards Trade

Taking to X, Patrick Beverley didn’t mince words when he took a shot at Young. “Wait, wait. Looky looky what happen?? Aww ok, I guess I wasn’t wrong!! And why didn’t a contending team want him? And why did ATL trade franchise?”

Beverley was responding to a social media post announcing Young’s trade to the Washington Wizards. While the veteran guard’s reply was quite late, he made it clear that he was trying to get his point across.

The beef between the two guards began when Beverley made a bold claim that the former Hawks star’s resume didn’t necessarily justify the stardom Young had built. He detailed his argument by questioning Young’s leadership qualities and how the organization had switched pieces because of the atmosphere around the playmaker.

In return, Young responded with some counters of his own in a YouTube video. To quickly add, the guard has seen three postseason appearances in his eight seasons with the Hawks. He led the team to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2021, averaging 28.8 points and 9.5 assists per game in the playoffs.

While Young hasn’t responded to Beverley’s post at the time of writing, it shouldn’t come as a surprise if the Wizards star responds at some point in the future. This comes amid reports that he was likely to make his Wizards debut on March 5 against the Utah Jazz.

Young has been recovering from a quad and a knee injury that led him to sit out for the Wizards game since his trade to DC. This season, he averages 19.3 points and 8.9 assists in 10 games for the Hawks. Earlier, it was reported that Young would be on a minutes restriction should he make his debut on Thursday.

At the time of writing, Young and the Wizards are well out of playoff contention with a 16-45 record. They are 13th in the East and on a six-game losing streak, a run the side will hope to arrest with Young likely back in the mix.
