The Washington Wizards hosted the third-seeded Houston Rockets at Capital One Arena on March 2. Beyond the Wizards’ 123-118 loss, the night delivered one of the strangest incidents in recent memory.
Wizards’ newly acquired point guard Trae Young, who has yet to play for the team, already has a stat line — and it includes an ejection. The NBA community quickly turned the moment into a mix of jokes and disbelief.

NBA World Reacts to Trae Young’s Ejection Before Wizards Debut
The incident occurred in the third quarter, when a brief scuffle broke out after Rockets forward Tari Eason shoved Wizards guard Jamir Watkins to the floor. Players rushed toward the scene, and Young stepped onto the court.
Young, dressed in street clothes and not playing, ran onto the court from the bench area and began arguing with an official. Under league rules, leaving the bench area during an altercation results in an automatic ejection. Officials immediately dismissed the veteran guard.
The unusual twist is that Young has yet to make his official debut for the Wizards, yet he already has an ejection to his name.
Bleacher Report posted: “Trae Young EJECTED for running on the court. He still hasn’t played a game for the Wizards yet.”

Young arrived in Washington after the Wizards traded guard CJ McCollum and forward Corey Kispert to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for the four-time All-Star.
Before being sidelined with knee and quadriceps injuries, Young played 10 games for Atlanta this season, averaging 19.3 points and 8.9 assists while shooting 41.5% from the field and 30.5% from 3-point range. Those numbers fell below his career averages and fueled criticism of his recent inconsistency. He last played Dec. 27 against the New York Knicks.
Washington, currently 16-44 and ranked 13th in the Eastern Conference standings, has lost five straight games. The franchise hopes Young can provide veteran leadership for a young core that includes Alexandre Sarr and Kyshawn George.
Young isset to make his Wizards debut on Thursday when Washington hosts the Utah Jazz.
