Rich Paul Makes Feelings Clear on Victor Wembanyama’s Chances of Becoming the NBA’s GOAT Over LeBron James, Michael Jordan

Rich Paul discusses Victor Wembanyama’s future, hinting at where he could rank among NBA legends if his rise continues.

The San Antonio Spurs hold a strong 42-16 record and currently sit second in the Western Conference standings. A major factor behind this impressive run has been the continued rise of their young star, Victor Wembanyama.

The 7-foot-4 phenom has transformed the team’s defense while also becoming its offensive centerpiece. His progress has now earned him a significant vote of confidence from agent Rich Paul.

Rich Paul Discusses Victor Wembanyama’s Potential to Become the NBA’s Greatest

In a recent episode of the “Game Over” podcast, Paul suggested that the NBA moving forward will likely be represented by a collective group of players rather than a single individual serving as the face of the league.

“When I look at the league today, talent-wise, there are a number of guys you could say could probably be the face… I think it’ll be a collective of players just like it was when Michael left in 1998. I don’t think it was one person… You had Iverson, Vince, T-Mac, Kobe, and Shaq. There were storylines with all of them as a collective,” Paul said.

In a more recent segment of the same podcast, Paul made remarks that drew considerable attention.

He did not directly state that there will be a traditional face of the league going forward, but he acknowledged that there will be a player regarded as the greatest of all time, similar to Michael Jordan and LeBron James. In his view, that player is Wembanyama.

“It’s two things. If he stays healthy, and if people don’t try to penalize him for how it looks. Most people try to penalize you because it didn’t look like their goat. It’s just about his body of work. My answer is yes,” Paul said.

Wembanyama entered the NBA after being selected No. 1 by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2023 draft. In the ongoing 2025-26 season, he is averaging 24.0 points, 11.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.0 steals, and a league-leading 2.9 blocks per game.

The season has not been without setbacks. Wembanyama missed 12 games due to a left calf strain and two more because of a knee bone bruise, totaling 14 absences.

Last month, Wembanyama made history during the Spurs’ 126-98 win over the Atlanta Hawks. He recorded his 100th consecutive regular-season game with at least one block, joining an exclusive group that includes Patrick Ewing and Dikembe Mutombo.

Paul’s comments do not guarantee greatness, which requires years of consistency, health, and team success. However, the fact that someone with Paul’s experience sees such potential in Wembanyama underscores the magnitude of his rise.
