NBA World Reacts As Kings Finally Snap Franchise-Record 16-Game Losing Streak: ‘Light the Freaking Beam’

NBA world reacts after the Sacramento Kings snap 16-game skid as Russell Westbrook leads the team to long-awaited road win.

After many, many traumatizing days of frustration, the Sacramento Kings finally walked off the Memphis hardwood floor with a 123-114 victory. They had not had a taste of a win since mid-January. The win didn’t alter their place near the bottom of the Western Conference standings, but it did end a franchise-record 16-game losing streak, which had been casting a long shadow over their prospects.

NBA World Erupts After Kings End 16-Game Skid in Memphis

For a team that had not won since January 16, the relief was palpable. The NBA world took notice immediately, with reactions pouring in from all corners across the league.

Popular X page, Legion Hoops posted, “IT HAPPENED: The Kings got their first win since January 16th. Light the freaking beam.”

The “light the beam” rallying cry, once a symbol of Sacramento’s resurgence, was suddenly revived again.

BR Betting’s X handle added perspective to just how long the drought lasted.
“The last time the Kings won a game

  • The NFL Divisional Round had not happened yet
  • Sean McDermott was still the coach of the Bills
  • The Australian Open had not started yet
  • The Kings were only 6 games back of a play-in spot.”

ESPN’s Anthony Slater provided standings context: even in victory, the draft implications linger, which is a reminder to all fans that this season’s overall trajectory hasn’t changed much.

“The Kings win in Memphis tonight to snap a franchise-record 16-game losing streak. Bumps them to 4-26 on the road this season. They’re still two wins behind (ahead) in standings for prime lottery position.”

Meanwhile, it was Russell Westbrook and the veterans who steadied the moment. Russ finished the game with 25 points and seven assists, scoring 10 in the fourth quarter alone. DeMar DeRozan and Daeqwon Plowden each added 19, with Plowden pouring in 10 in the final frame to close the door.

Bleacher Report captured the stat line succinctly. “Russ leads Kings to FIRST W since Jan. 16th. 25 PTS 7 AST 3 3PM Kings snap 16-game losing streak.”

For Westbrook, who is very much still productive at 37, this win was extra special since it was his first 25-point outing since the Kings’ last win. His late-game burst prevented Memphis from cutting the deficit below seven in the final five minutes.

James Ham, Kings Insider for ESPN1320, The Kings Beat, and Locked On Kings, couldn’t be prouder of the team he observes daily. “Praise the basketball gods, the streak is over. The Kings snapped their 16-game losing streak and picked up just their 4th road of the season with a 123-114 victory over the Grizzlies Monday night in Memphis. Here are six quick thoughts as the Kings pick up win No. 13:”

He followed this tweet with an entire thread. But that road note matters. Sacramento is now 4-26 on the road and 13-46 overall, still last in the West. Many couldn’t believe how relieved the locker room must feel, especially in the Killian Hayes era.

Sports influencer Matt wrote, “The Sacramento Kings are undefeated in the Killian Hayes era,” crediting him as the ultimate good luck charm.

The timing was enough here. Hayes signed a 10-day contract just recently, and it served as a symbolic turning point for the franchise. As always, NBA Twitter found humor amid the chaos.

Inside the locker room, the tone after the streak ended was more grounded. “Obviously, you do not want that with your name,” head coach Doug Christie said. “But there are points in this where I’m really proud of how our guys continued to evolve.”

DeRozan came forward and admitted to the emotional weight of this win. “Nobody wants to lose, especially the streak that we were on. It just felt good to get that monkey off your back.”

Sacramento didn’t just stumble into this win; they executed late. After watching the final four losses of the streak spiral into blowouts by an average margin of 27 points, the Kings showed poise this time.
