Even when he’s not in his Milwaukee Bucks jersey, Giannis Antetokounmpo continues to command the spotlight. The Bucks superstar hasn’t suited up since late January, yet his presence at Fiserv Forum on Sunday drew loud cheers with a brief courtside exchange with a young cancer survivor.

Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Heartwarming Interaction With Young Cancer Survivor
Just a few possessions into the contest, Atentokounmpo noticed a sign from Mason, a 6-year-old cancer survivor attending the game. What followed was spontaneous, emotional, and everything fans admire about the two-time MVP.
Giannis walked over and delivered an enthusiastic high-five, a strong one, that is. This was again followed by a hilarious conversation between Mason and Giannis. After this high-five exchange, the Greek Freak turned and joked, “I’m gonna be out six more weeks.”
The line immediately drew laughter. It was a playful nod to his calf strain that has kept him away from the hardwood floor since January 23. Timing, delivery, and humility made the moment classic Giannis.
For Mason, the moment was bigger than basketball. Meeting his idol after overcoming cancer carried emotional weight far beyond the scoreboard. For Giannis, it was simply about showing up, even while sidelined.
Antetokounmpo has recently said he feels “100 percent,” though the team continues to take a cautious approach with his recovery. His presence on the bench, however, remains impactful.
Bucks Struggle Again Without Their Superstar
The feel-good exchange stood in contrast to the Bucks’ performance on the floor. The Bucks fell 122-94 to the Raptors, dropping to 24-31 on the season. Plus, they are 15-15 with Giannis, while 9-16 without him. It only goes to show how vital he is to the Bucks’ postseason hopes.
After the loss, HC Doc Rivers didn’t mince his words. “We got manhandled. Bottom line. We just did,” Rivers said. “I thought their physicality completely took us out of the game. It turned us into one-on-one players. We stopped moving the ball, stopped playing the way we’ve been.”
The Bucks shot just 41 percent from the field and went 9-for-32 from three. They committed 19 turnovers, which Toronto converted into 27 points.
“I think we kind of got down on ourselves when we wasn’t making shots,” guard Kevin Porter Jr. said. “And we can’t have those lapses. Our offense became an influence on our defense.”
Toronto, meanwhile, capitalized. Immanuel Quickley poured in 32 points with 9 assists, while Brandon Ingram added 22. The Raptors assisted on 17 of their 21 first-half baskets and finished the game in full control.

Antetokounmpo was expected to miss four to six weeks after straining his calf in January. However, there has been no timeline or timetable for him specifying his comeback. Still, Rivers reiterated recently that shutting him down isn’t part of the plan.
“He’s going to play when he’s healthy,” Rivers said earlier this month. “He’s getting close. He’s working out. He looks good. I would say hopefully sooner than later.”
For now, the Bucks continue to navigate a tight playoff race without their franchise cornerstone in uniform.
