Anthony Edwards Reveals Hilarious 6-Word Message to Kawhi Leonard After Clippers Star’s 31-Point All-Star Game Outburst

Anthony Edwards reacts after edging Kawhi Leonard for 2026 NBA All-Star MVP in Los Angeles.

Anthony Edwards outlasted Kawhi Leonard to win the 2026 NBA All-Star Game MVP on Sunday night at the Intuit Dome. He successfully overcame Leonard’s 31-point eruption that briefly made the hometown star the favorite for the Kobe Bryant Trophy.

Leonard’s scoring showcase during the round-robin portion of the revamped USA Stars vs. USA Stripes vs. World format ignited the MVP debate. But Edwards’ steady production across multiple games ultimately secured him the award, with 10 of 14 votes.

Anthony Edwards’ Message to Kawhi Leonard After 31-Point Surge

Leonard’s outburst did not go unnoticed, especially by Edwards. “I told him when we walked out for the last game, I said you need to chill out,” Edwards said, smiling as he recounted the moment.

The comment came after Leonard poured in 31 points on 11-of-13 shooting, including 6-of-7 from beyond the arc, in Team Stripes’ 48-45 win over Team World. The LA Clippers forward added three rebounds and two steals in just 12 minutes, electrifying the Los Angeles crowd and shifting the MVP conversation.

“It was great; happy that Adam [Silver] let me in,” Leonard said, referencing NBA commissioner Adam Silver adding him as an injury replacement. “That’s what the home crowd wanted to see. I’m glad I was able to do something in that game.”

It wasn’t just Edwards, but other players around the league took notice of Leonard’s scoring barrage.

“We were watching it like, ‘Damn, this guy is killing,’” Scottie Barnes said. “When a guy has it going like that, it’s special.”

Edwards’ Consistency Wins Out in Final Vote

While Leonard delivered the most explosive single-game performance, Edwards constructed the stronger overall case.

The Minnesota Timberwolves guard totaled 32 points in 26 minutes across the tournament, shooting 13-of-22 from the field and 6-of-15 from three-point range. He scored 13 points in the opening matchup against Team World, including a game-tying three-pointer to force overtime, and added eight points in the championship game as Team Stars defeated Team Stripes 47-21.

When Silver announced him as MVP, Edwards reflected on the moment.

“It means a lot,” Edwards said. “I love Minnesota, and I know Minnesota loves me. I said I wasn’t going to put on a show for them, but I gave them a show.”

Revamped Format Delivers Competitive Edge

Beyond the MVP race, players agreed the new format restored intensity to All-Star Sunday after years of criticism about effort levels.

“I think it was definitely a step up in the competitive department compared to last season,” Kevin Durant said. “Kawhi was great. Ant was great. I think we did what we’re supposed to do for the fans.”

Leonard echoed that sentiment while remaining open to adjustments moving forward. “I still think going back to East-West will be great. I think guys will compete still,” Leonard said. “But whatever grabs the attention of the consumer, I’m for it.”

In the end, Leonard delivered the night’s most electric scoring burst while Edwards delivered the more complete performance. Their balance together determined the 2026 All-Star festivities.
