Speculation swirled this week around the Dallas Mavericks and former majority owner Mark Cuban. But behind the scenes, those close to the situation paint a much clearer picture about where things stand.

Mavericks Ownership Sends Clear Message

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Dumont and Adelson families are fully committed to the Dallas Mavericks and the Dallas community. They are definitely not entertaining the idea of selling.

“The Dumont and Adelson families remain fully committed to the Dallas Mavericks’ franchise and to the Dallas community,” Marc Stein writes. “They remain focused on building a championship organization for the long term. The team is not for sale, and the families look forward to expanding their ownership stake over time.”

That statement comes amid reports that various Dallas-based investor groups have shown interest in potential opportunities involving the franchise.

However, those close to ownership insist their attention is on sustained growth and long-term stability.

Patrick Dumont, who assumed the role of team governor after the Adelson family purchased a majority stake in December 2023, has largely stayed out of the spotlight. But his recent public appearance at a Mavericks road game in Phoenix added to league-wide discussion about the franchise’s direction.

Mark Cuban Addresses Outside Interest

Rumors have also been swirling that unidentified Dallas-based investors were interested in teaming up with Mark Cuban in an attempt to buy the franchise back. However, he also made clear that he does not anticipate ownership shifting hands.

“I get asked fairly often if I would be part of a group if they could buy the team,” Cuban told The Dallas Morning News’ Brad Townsend. “I tell them all the same thing: I don’t see them selling.”

Rumors intensified amid recent franchise turbulence, including major front-office decisions that have drawn scrutiny in the fraternity.

Patrick Dumont also made a rare public appearance at a recent road game in Phoenix, which only amplified chatter.

Cuban, who sold his majority stake in the team for $3.5 billion in 2023, still holds a 27% minority stake. Even though he does not control basketball operations, he remains closely associated with the organization after serving as the majority owner for 23 years.

His remarks align with Stein’s report. They are looking at organizational growth, long-term competitiveness, and strengthening the franchise’s footprint in Dallas. They look forward to positioning the Mavericks for sustained success in the league rather than cashing out.

Under the terms of the original agreement, the Dumont and Adelson families have until December 2027 to exercise an option that would allow them to buy out all but 7% of Cuban’s remaining stake. Till then, the Mavericks seem to be staying exactly as they are.
