Grammy award winner Coco Jones delivered a powerful moment before kickoff at Super Bowl 60. And her Fiancé, Donovan Mitchell, made sure she knew how proud he was.
Donovan Mitchell Praises Fiancée Coco Jones After Her Moving Performance at Super Bowl 60
Jones performed “Lift Every Voice and Sing” ahead of Super Bowl 60 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on Feb. 8. The song, often called the Black national anthem, was sung before the Super Bowl for the sixth year in a row Sunday.
After her performance, the Grammy-winning R&B singer shared an emotional moment with her fiancé, Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell. The two were seen embracing and kissing on the field after her rendition.
A reporter asked Jones about the moment, saying, “I saw you get emotional, and Donovan was looking at you, and he was saying something to you.”
Mitchell later shared what he told her.
“I said, go ahead, girl. That’s what she’s been working on, and she killed it. I couldn’t have went any better for her. I’m proud of her. I’ve seen her work on this a thousand times, and to see, she bodied it. She killed it.”
Jones responded by reflecting on their mutual support.
“Well, you know, we both, in a sense, have to lose all fear to do our jobs, you know? And we make it not about us, but there’s something special about somebody who sees you in the sacrifice of doing something like this.”
Jones, a former Disney child star, won her first Grammy Award in 2024 for her breakout platinum-certified hit “ICU.” The song helped elevate her career and solidify her place in R&B.
For Super Bowl 60, Jones wore an outfit honoring the late Whitney Houston, who performed the national anthem at the Super Bowl in January 1991. Her look was a new interpretation of Houston’s iconic 1991 Super Bowl style.
Mitchell, meanwhile, stood by her side on one of the biggest stages of her career, celebrating the moment after her performance.
Jones and Mitchell first connected in 2023 at a networking event for creatives. Two years later, they announced their engagement in July 2025.
Super Bowl 60, held at Levi’s Stadium, also featured a halftime show by Bad Bunny and additional performances by Green Day, Brandi Carlile, and Charlie Puth. The Seattle Seahawks etched their name in history as the game’s winners.
Jones’ rendition of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” came before kickoff and quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of the night.
As both continue their careers at the highest level, Sunday’s performance marked another milestone in a year filled with major moments for the couple.
