2026 NBA All-Star Jamal Murray has managed to keep his personal life away from the limelight. Still, most fans are aware that he is in a relationship with Harper Hempel. Here’s what’s known about her and their relationship.
Jamal Murray’s Girlfriend Is an Athlete
Murray’s personal life is essentially a mystery since he’s chosen to keep it private. What is known about him outside of what he’s doing for the Denver Nuggets is that he’s been in a long-term relationship with Hempel.
When Murray played his lone season as a Wildcat in 2015-16, Hempel was already in her sophomore year. From her sophomore year onwards, she was a Division I volleyball player, serving as a defensive specialist. While Murray entered the NBA in the 2016 draft, she remained for a couple more years, playing until the 2017-18 season.
While not much is known about Hempel personally, her professional life is quite transparent due to her LinkedIn profile. According to it, she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing with a Minor in Digital Media.
Since graduating, she’s earned plenty of experience working as a social media community manager. She is currently serving as the Head of Partnerships for “The Cold Life,” a luxury health and wellness brand. Aside from that, she’s also a professional, self-employed photographer.
Neither Murray nor Hempel shares their relationship on social media. Murray’s Instagram account has remained dedicated to documenting his basketball career, while Hempel shares other snapshots of her life.
Despite that, the two were briefly involved in a controversy in 2020 when an NSFW intimate moment between them was shared on Murray’s Instagram Story. The Nuggets’ star’s account was later deactivated, and he took to X (formerly Twitter) to explain that he had been hacked.
Hempel also went on her own social media account to ask people who had the video to delete it. However, her post has since been deleted. Outside of this incident, the relationship between the two has remained a mystery to the general public.
She has also been rarely spotted at games, and that speaks at length about how the couple wants to keep it under wraps as much as possible, and understandably so.
The focus is mainly on Murray and his continued rise to stardom. He is currently averaging 25.7 points, 7.6 assists, and 4.4 rebounds in 50 games. Both of these would be career highs if he maintains them to the end of the season. He has also been rewarded with his first-ever All-Star game nod and will play as a member of Team World on February 15.
